“Woven Flow” is designed by First Nations contemporary artist, Emily Joanna Reid.

This artwork tells a story of connection - between people, place, spirit, and the unseen energies that guide us.

Throughout this piece there are large circles, representing various meeting places and gathering circles. These are spaces are where stories are shared, knowledge is passed down, and community is strengthened. The varying sizes reflect different kinds of gatherings - family, community, and ancestral presence. Which are all equally important and interconnected.

Elements throughout the artwork depict various pathways and songlines, shown through the curved lines and layered tracks. These lines represent personal journeys and movement - both physical and spiritual. Some paths are smooth, while others are winding, reminding us that every journey carries its own lessons.

The dot work surrounding the circles reflects energy, connection, and communication. These dots can be seen as people, voices, or moments in time. Each one contributing to a larger story.

The organic shapes woven across the canvas represent the land itself, the water, and life systems. They are fluid and ever-changing, reflecting the living nature of Country and its deep connection to identity and culture.

The various colour palettes of purples, pinks, light blues and yellows, represent the delicate - stunning beauty of what the artwork represents.

"Ellen" designed by First Nations Contemporary Artist, Emily Joanna Reid.

This artwork was created for my beautiful sister, Terri Ellen Reid for her birthday.

In this art piece it depicts a large circle with U shapes surrounding a core circle in the direct middle. The U shapes represent our small but close connected, immediate family - Sister Terri, our mother & me.

The solid dark pink core at the centre represents who we all are and what we've been through as a trio, all our memories, our beliefs, our strengths.

The symbols, lines and swirls represent the outside world around us - sometimes it can be crazy and chaotic but other times it can be just as beautiful and flowing.

This artwork I created specifically for my sister Terri, is a reminder to her that even when life gets hard, sometimes unmanageable or challenging. We will always have each other at the core.

I want you to take this in as a reminder to. Even though we all live busy lives, we will always have that safe, calm environment to come back to - whether that's family at your core, long-time best friends, significant others or even a furry-friend.

"Fifty" designed by First Nations Contemporary Artist, Emily Joanna Reid.

This artwork piece would of actually been my final submission for this years NAIDOC poster competition.

However, unfortunately my artwork does take time and I personally can't rush my flow & creativity mind.

This year for the 2026 NAIDOC theme it's "50 Years of Deadly".

"Fifty Years of Deadly marks a milestone. It’s a tribute to the people who built this movement. the Elders who stood firm, the organisers who made space, the artists who turned resistance into expression, and the communities who keep showing up, year after year."

This artwork reimagines the Australian $50 note as a tribute to the power, resilience, and legacy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It brings together influential leaders, voices, and change-makers who have helped shape the past fifty years - honouring their strength, vision, and unwavering commitment to community.

By placing these figures within the framework of currency, the artwork challenges ideas of values - shifting the focus from material wealth to cultural strength, knowledge, and legacy. It is a celebration of survival, achievement, and the enduring spirit of First Nations peoples.

"Babinda" designed by First Nations Contemporary Artist, Emily Joanna Reid.

This artwork is a heartfelt tribute to family, place, and connection.

This artwork is inspired by my grandmother, Joanna Janke and the beautiful place she calls home, Babinda located in Far North Queensland.

This piece reflects the deep ties between our families generation, connection and ties in the beauty of nature and the fresh waterways that surround.

The large circle in this artwork represents my grandmother and the circles above, that surround symbolise her three beautiful children and their own families.

The light blues and deep forest greens captures the essence of Babinda, where lush mountains meet vibrant skies and dense tropical landscapes.

Babinda has always had that sense of home, of peace & tranquillity.

Just like her.
