Pacific Womens' Weaving Circle

Pacific Womens' Weaving Circle Brisbane, Queensland, for women of Pacific Island heritage. Led by Maryann Talia Pau & Ranu James. Weaving is the conduit that binds us together culturally.

The Pacific Women's Weaving Circle was originally founded by artists Maryann Talia Pau and Lisa Hilli as a space for Pacific women living in Melbourne, Australia to connect, socially and culturally. It's a space where we as Pacific Islander women get to share the cultural norms of what it is to be Pacific Islander living in Australia, share artistic ideas amongst each other as well as teach other

cultural values and protocols, particularly within the context of weaving. We have been commissioned to create site specific installations, work collaboratively with other artists, create work for exhibitions as well as facilitate public weaving workshops.

When our women gather … we weave, we eat, we full belly, side split laugh out loud, we heal and stori stori, as we hold each other in our sacred circle of learning.

Our Pacific Women’s Weaving Circle provides a culturally safe space for our Pasifika and Māori women to come together to learn from each other, to sit with our Elders and practice our culture.

Thank you for today! We all had a beautiful ⭐️ weaving session.

Seeing other women who are yearning, who are really wanting to learn how to make a basket, how to weave a mat or a coaster… seeing their faces when they accomplish that, is really exciting."

Learn how to weave a simple armband/small/bracelet/napkin rings or earrings.
Cost is $80. Includes materials, coffee and tea.
