Meet Mark • Mark Jones, owner of Brisbane Goldfish, is mad about water but even more-so when it comes to fish.

He knows what makes fish tick.

Stemming from a long family of ichthyologists, his expertise extends beyond breeding quality goldfish. He knows how to keep different aquatic environments and their inhabitants in great shape.

Brisbane Goldfish started as a hobby for Mark. In tanks, aquariums and ponds, all in his own home.

This hobby quickly fed an unmet market he found through his primary business, Pond Works, where we design, build and maintain water features across South-East Queensland and beyond. Arguably, it's Mark's love of fish that started him building ponds in the first place.

Brisbane Goldfish is his answer to the persistent gap in the market he wanted to see fulfilled 👉 Quality fish in Queensland ponds and aquariums for aquarists who are just as mad about fish as he is.

🐟 Size • Can reach 25–35cm when fully grown
⏳ Growth • Takes around 3 years to reach full size
🎨 Colouring • Striking calico blend of blue, red, orange, yellow & black—often with a gorgeous iridescent sheen
🌡️ Ideal Conditions • Water temps 8–23°C, pH 6.5–7.5. They need strong filtration and well-oxygenated water
🐠 Nature • Peaceful and social—gets along well with other fish
🏡 Habitat • Great in ponds or large tanks. They’re active swimmers, so give them plenty of space
🌼 Spawning Season • Spring through to Autumn

Shubunkins have very similar traits to the Comets but the biggest difference is Shubunkins have stunning iridescent, calico colouring.

Social, fast swimmers and great at managing algae growth in ponds, you can hand select your own at Brisbane Goldfish.
