All of the paintings in my upcoming Solo Show tell a story. And often their stories are not immediately obvious. So today I’m going to start sharing some of them …
This is the story of ‘Labyrinth’.
When I was in Santa Fe earlier this year, I was staying in a property that overlooked a labyrinth.
A labyrinth (I learnt) is a mediate place where you practice with intention, via a guided walk, the purpose of clarity and release.
I was curious - and so I ‘did it’.
And it was cleansing. And good!
As I walked, and ruminated, and considered, and focused and bore deep into my thoughts, I found a gentle quiet and peace. I walked out ‘feeling lighter’ and, subsequently, returned there to contemplate again and again.
The painting is about this but, most importantly, it’s about the space I occupied (or didn’t) in it.
As always with my art, there is a ‘Mighty Woman’ sitting aside the labyrinth. But she is transparent - not wanting to dominate her environment or space. She is considered and still - but strong and wise as she sits on a plinth contemplating her intentions.
The sky is blue, the grass is green, the clouds are swifting by. But she is still and in ‘conversation’ with her space - which she respects and honors.
CAN you relate to this?
