"Black Swan"
by Matt
Matt's story: The scenery in this image was captured in Cradle Mountain, Tasmania. A picture of wilderness, it's quite surprising and devastating to learn how affected lakes like this are by the decade of mining on the West Coast and all the mineral dust that blew inland on the winds, poisoning many of the waterways.
The black swan was captured in another Tasmanian location, the combination of which imagines a healthier place. I feel like black swans are an avian icon of Tasmania, with them being quite prolific especially around New Norfolk.
The heavy texturing is a technique I used to bring out the texture of the falling snow that was within the scene. The style is intended to have some of the rawness that one would typically find in analogue photography such as tintypes.
"Black Swan" is one of our Deluxe Edition Prints, a special collection of images that are signed by hand and are accompanied by a small booklet containing the story of the image and a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
It is currently on display in the Gallery as part of our Winter Showcase. We're open 10am-4pm every day except Wednesdays, at 102a Gavan Street in Bright (across the road from the Cinema / Visitor's Centre / Brewery).
