Admittedly there's some bodice ripping that goes on in this book. But that's only part of the story. This book is part thriller/crime/historical fiction. I’ve always opted for the creative challenge which is how I’ve ended up on a two week Creative Residency at All That We Are, Stanford, Tasmania. I’ll be burrowing down at this wonderful property - in solitude - for the foreseeable future, with the aim of writing 60,000 words of my new novel. Can I do it? Game on. Around twenty years ago I wrote this book A Life by Design: The Art and Lives of Florence Broadhurst. It recounts the life and times of Broadhurst (designer, socialite, entrepreneur) who was brutally murdered in her Paddington Sydney studio in 1977. The case remains unsolved. I am elated to say that the biography has now been relaunched in a second edition/iteration and can be purchased via Allen & Unwin and select Australian bookstores. For an author this is such welcome, amazing news. A Life by Design really is the gift that keeps on giving.

BENDIGO WRITERS' FESTIVAL EXODUS: More than 50 authors and illustrators, including members of Sisters in Crime, withdrew from the Bendigo Writers Festival this weekend in response to a last-minute Code of Conduct that demanded participants avoid topics that might be “divisive” and applied the Bendigo Council and sponsor La Trobe University’s policies to guests of the festival. Authors who withdrew, citing fears of censorship and restricting authors’ freedom of expression, include Randa Abdel-Fattah, Evelyn Araluen, Claire G Coleman, Jess Hill, Fiona Hardy, and festival co-curator Clare Wright. Even the festival bookseller, Bookish, withdrew in solidarity.
President of Sisters in Crime, Kelly Gardiner, was to host two sessions and participate in a third panel, but withdrew late on Thursday, as did all her fellow panellists. Kelly said that the initial intent was clearly to stifle discussion about Gaza, and the broader ramifications were worrying. ‘This is a time when authors and artists need to be talking about what’s happening in the world. Writers' festivals, arts organisations, libraries, and universities should be all about supporting freedom of expression - not endangering it.” Posted by Carmel Shute,
