That’s a wrap on Saturday at the Australian Backcountry Festival!

Yesterday was packed with incredible tours and workshops - from navigation basics and backcountry first aid to avalanche deep dives. We even had a backcountry dessert‑making session outside! 🍰

If you missed out, don’t worry! There’s plenty happening today, including some of the popular drop in sessions like Evan’s Sew Your Skin Bag 🧵

Enjoying the festival so far? Make sure you hang around for the Sunday evening speakers series! We have three amazing speakers lined up:
Bill Barker, head of Hotham Ski Patrol sharing his experience in daring rescues and close calls.
Heather Swan, world record holding adventurer, sharing stories of adventure, lessons for life and asking what becomes possible when fear no longer leads?
Eric Philips OAM, polar explorer and astronaut sharing tales of his truly unique life from trekking more than 10,000 polar km to spending 4 days in space as the first person to orbit under the Australian flag.

Come enjoy these world-class speakers, get inspired to get outdoors and share great food & drinks with the backcountry crew 🥳🥳 The final raffle will also be drawn with lots of great prizes up for grabs 🤩

Join us on the Friday night of the festival for our Meet and Greet / kick off party!

The wonderful folks at Zirky's, Mount Hotham and Buffalo Boulders are making sure we have finger food 🥨, discounted drinks 🍻and entertainment 🤪 for the evening, and it’s the perfect opportunity to get to know your new backcountry pals and fellow festival go-ers. Coming to the festival alone? Not anymore, you’ll leave the Friday party with a group of new friends who are just as stoked on the backcountry as you are! ❤️🧡💛

The Zirky’s kitchen will be serving finger food 🍟🌮from just after 6pm, and trivia & games 🎲 will be kicking off from 7pm, so we recommend getting to Zirky’s early to grab a drink and get your team ready to compete! 🍺🏆

Zirky’s will have a menu available until 8pm if you’d like to order dinner, with snacks and desserts able to be ordered until 9pm.

We’ve teamed up with the legends at Wild to give away copies of their current Winter 2026 issue at the festival. This issue marks a mighty two hundred issues of Australian wilderness, adventure and conservation storytelling. Huge! ⛰️
