Born in Brisbane Australia in 1960 where he completed his Primary and High School education. At fifteen years of age he enlisted in the Australian Navy serving nine years on eighteen different ships and bases. Deploying overseas on four occasions he was introduced to a plethora of different cultures throughout Southeast Asia and the South Pacific. To enlist at such a young age unfortunately left h

im with several disorders that so many other veterans must carry and suffer daily. It was during those early stages of his enlistment he took up pen and paper and began to journal his experiences, allowing a much-needed avenue of expressing and downloading his emotions without ridicule. Upon the completion of his military service Shane entered a world that he had not seen since he enlisted at fifteen years of age and the transition to civilian life was not without its difficulties. Shane would go on to work as a landscape and paving brick layer, Harley Davidson mechanic, during which time he would excel at being an outright rebel. He would eventually find a position within Airservices Australia where he could utilise his military communications training. Writing would continue to provide solace and a sanctuary, where his creative soul could roam free. In his mid-twenties the thirst for a creative outlet could not be quenched and he formed a band. His collection of written words morphed into a three-hour set of original songs that would lead to the release of an album. Still not content with his 'fifteen minutes of fame’, he would open two record stores and establish an Australia wide compact disc club. In 2009 Shane released three coffee table books of poetry and in 2010 published the hardcover book ‘The Poet’ containing 121 poems. 2024, after a seven-year battle with his disorders, he published a revised edition of ‘The Poet’. Future projects include a series of illustrated poetry books in collaboration with a sunshine coast artist and a memoir. Shane now lives and writes on a small island off the east coast of Australia.

THE ARRANGEMENT OF A POETIC MEMOIR finds its foundation in the author’s earlier work, the 2010 book entitled THE POET. While the original context and themes of those poems have been carefully preserved, the author recognised the necessity to dramatically transform the structural composition of the content. On the 1st of October 1882 Vincent van Gogh wrote in a letter to his brother Theo at The Hague.
'Success is sometimes the outcome of a whole string of failures.'

Success. 'The achievement of a desired result or outcome; the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. In later use often: the attainment of wealth, social status, etc.' (Oxford English Dictionary)

Unfortunately I live in a world that deems success as wealth and social status. How much you earn - what type of car you drive - what suburb you live in - how big is your house - what label is on your clothes - what lineage your family name.

I continue to fail on a daily basis, week after week, month after month, year after year, decade after decade.

Success for me is to write enough poetry to publish another book and not care in the least if anyone reads that book. Publishing that book was my desired outcome.
