A co-curation from Chira Grasby and aidan

Join us this Wednesday August 5th from 6-8PM at Praxis Artspace, Contemporary Gallery to open this exhibition. It will hopefully leave you confused, nostalgic, melancholic, and perhaps even uncomfortable 💙

‘User Interface’ dissects the visual phenomena of digital ephemera, and queries the omnipresence of internet culture in our daily lives. It examines memes, online forums, over consumption, bodily autonomy, and the overstimulation of the digital realm.

Chiranjika says, “It’s been a real pleasure to work on this show, and it’s reminding me how rewarding freelance projects are for my curatorial practice. The freedom and experimentation that comes with these opportunities is priceless, and the connections formed throughout are incredibly valuable.”

It’s a new iteration of my work Red Earth built for a gallery space and features a mix of photography, 16mm projection and a soundscape with all images shot on Aerochrome film

The project was supported by Atkins Film , Paul Atkins , Gavin Blake and Patty Chehade and thank them all immensely for their contributions

In the gallery are my photographs, 16mm footage by André Donadio and myself and music by Frank Giles and Jacob Whitelock

Please come opening night if you come and the project is also a finalist in the inspiring science award for Sala!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the “SALA in Lights” projections of portraits shown in “offering[s]” at Praxis Artspace during last year’s SALA Festival have been moved to a new location.

They will now be projected onto a wall adjacent to the main entrance of the State Library of SA on North Terrace in the city.

The artist, Tony Kearney will be there from 6.00pm on Saturday the 1st of August

EMPTY NEST will be open for 1 final day only today, Saturday 18th April 1-4pm.

Margaret’s Mother’s books:
What does one do with our parent’s books?
Margaret shares vague memories of her parents reading some of the stories to her, the pictures are familiar, but a long time ago.
“Some of the pages coloured in by my mother when she was a child - early mark making.

“I have boxes of my parent’s books - children’s books, classic books, my father’s engineering books. I find it hard to move them on because my parents kept them all of their lives.”

“Holding onto someone else’s memories.

“I have done the same to my children - keeping the clothes they came from hospital in when they were born - I showed them the clothes while working on Empty nest - their response- Why did you keep those?”

Margaret’s memories.

Margaret will be giving an artist talk as a special event marking the last day of Empty Nest - 2pm today.

The presentation will cover the conceptual development, creative process, and making of the work.

Following the talk, there will be a brief demonstration on monotype techniques, with an opportunity for people to create their own monotype drawing if they wish.
