Vale Dolly Parton 🦋
We don’t always acknowledge the passing of prominent artists on this page - the world of arts and culture is enormous, and sadly, we could never recognize every loss.
But for someone who made such an extraordinary contribution to global arts and culture, it felt right to pause and acknowledge the passing of Dolly Parton
Dolly was far more than a legendary singer and songwriter. She was an actor, author, philanthropist, feminist and advocate; a much-loved ally to the LGBTQIA+ community; and a passionate supporter of children’s literacy. Through her Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, she helped place hundreds of millions of books into the hands of children around the world.
She gave the world so many songs that became deeply woven into people’s lives - songs connected to love, heartbreak, hope, strength and treasured memories. Through her storytelling, she demonstrated the extraordinary power of music to bring people together, express what we struggle to put into words and help us feel less alone.
Dolly inspired generations - not only through her talent, but through the way she forged her own path, retained control of her work and career, championed women, and remained unapologetically herself.
Her creativity, generosity, humour and humanity reached far beyond country music, and we know many people throughout our local arts and culture community will be feeling this loss.
Thank you for the music, the stories, the laughter and the kindness, Dolly. What an extraordinary legacy you leave behind. 💛
