๐Ÿ”†๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ‘ฃ We are proud and honoured to welcome the Gudanji Dancers to this yearโ€™s Malandarri Festival.

๐Ÿ”† Representing the Barkly region, with Country located south of Borroloola, the Gudanji Dancers carry and share their Dreaming stories through traditional song, dance and ceremony.

๐Ÿ”† Across generations, Gudanji dancers have performed storytelling ceremonies, including the Jarajija and Bulwinaya dances. Wearing their distinctive yellow ochre markings and traditional attire, their performances are a powerful expression of connection to Country, carrying ancestral knowledge, stories and culture from one generation to the next.

๐Ÿ‘ฃ As the first band to emerge from Borroloola, the Malandarri Band helped shape the regionโ€™s music scene and paved the way for generations of musicians to follow. Their music has carried the stories, spirit and strength of community well beyond the Gulf, including touring alongside the iconic Coloured Stone.

๐Ÿ‘ฃ For decades, the band has been a source of pride for Borroloola, inspiring young artists to pick up an instrument, find their voice, and share their own stories through music.

๐Ÿ‘ฃ Having the Malandarri Band perform at the festival is more than a concert ~ itโ€™s a celebration of a musical legacy that continues to influence and inspire our community today.

๐Ÿ‘ฃ Known for their infectious rock โ€˜nโ€™ roll and reggae mix, Sandridge Band bring a unique original sound that blends roots, reggae and blues, combining traditional and contemporary songs to create music that reflects the stories, spirit and experiences of life in a small community.

๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿงœ๐Ÿฟโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ฃ The Garrwa people are the Traditional Owners of Country across the southwest Gulf of Carpentaria, with families primarily living in the communities of Doomadgee, Burketown, Gununa, Robinson River and Borroloola.

๐ŸŒŠ Malandarri Festival proudly acknowledges the Robinson River community as an important part of this celebration. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who travels the 150 kilometres to join us, sharing their culture through dance, song and storytelling.

๐ŸŒŠ The Garrwa dancers perform stories from the early days of settlement, alongside the powerful story of the Blind Mermaid from their Country ~ keeping these stories alive through song and dance for future generations. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿชƒ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ‘ฃ The Wandangula dancers bring stories to life through powerful song, dance and culture, sharing traditions that have been passed down through generations.

๐Ÿชƒ Made up of Garrwa and Yanyuwa dancers, they perform the stories of the Dreamtime alongside contemporary stories, including the much-loved Aeroplane dance from WW2. Each performance is a celebration of culture, resilience and the enduring strength of storytelling.

๐Ÿชƒ The McDinny family continues to keep these stories strong, teaching the next generations and ensuring these cultural traditions continue to thrive for years to come.

๐Ÿชƒ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ Weโ€™re proud to welcome Mulga back to Malandarri Festival for a third year to deliver their Community De-escalation Training in Borroloola!

๐Ÿชƒ Over two days, up to 6 local community members will build practical skills and confidence before joining the festival team alongside qualified security personnel, who support them throughout the event.

๐Ÿชƒ This approach not only helps create a safe and welcoming festival environment but also invests in local people by creating meaningful employment opportunities and strengthening community capacity.

๐Ÿชƒ Weโ€™re grateful to continue our partnership with Mulga, whose First Nations-led approach reflects the values at the heart of Malandarri ~ community leadership, cultural understanding and caring for one another.
