The walk takes you on an adventure based on an ancient tale with bonfire finale. Created by DOUGLAS & MACKAY ART PROJECTS CONFERENCE Of THE BIRDS - Sat 24th May Centenary park BOOLARRA
Conference of the Birds is a community-based event inspired by the resilience, artistic talents and community spirit of the people of the Latrobe Valley & South Gippsland & it celebrates the beautiful bird-life
& lands we call home. Based loosely on the Sufi poem by 12thC poet Farīd ud-Dīn Attār Conference of the Birds art-walk is conceived of as a processional night -time pilgrimage along the Boolarra-Mirboo North Rail Trail. The pilgrimage explores land, climate, survival & belonging created in collaboration with First Nations peoples, artists & the broader community. As an open & inclusive processional art-event Conference of the Birds will bring together locals from villages & towns in the Latrobe valley & Strzelecki ranges including: diverse community groups, schools, visual and performing artists & participants of all ages and abilities. This pilot project -The Valley of the Quest will take place entirely in Centenary Park Boolarra. Under the Artistic Direction of D&M community will create the art-walk together - celebrating the natural environment & the region's diversity and artistry. A series of ritual-art installations & performances embedded in landscape – & emerging out of it - along the rail trail will re-interpret the seven valleys found in the text. IN 2025 installations / performances & sound-scapes help light the pathway along the rail trail to the finale bonfire event at The Meadows.
