Art Farm Birchs Bay (AFBB) is a not-for-profit association established to foster engagement between community, artists, art and the landscape. AFBB is situated at Five Bob Farm, an innovative working farm in the south Channel and home to Diemen Pepper. y hosts exhibitions, artist residencies, workshops and the renowned Sculpture Trail - an annual sculpture exhibition featuring Tasmanian and interstate artists with support by private sponsorship and local government. Art Farm Birchs Bay is based in lutruwita (Tasmania), approx 35 minutes south of nipaluna (Hobart) and 10 minutes south of putalina (Oyster Cove). We acknowledge the traditional owners of this land, the palawa people, and pay deep respect to elders past and present, to the many Aboriginal people that did not make elder status, and to the Tasmanian Aboriginal community that continue to care for Country.

Each year around twenty sculptures are exhibited on the trail - We ask people to make a small donation to help keep the track maintained and to leave us a vote for their favourite piece, so we can award a prize for the Popular Choice.

Next time you're exploring, remember to look up, look around, and listen carefully! 🌿🦜

While it's a wonderful place to enjoy art nestled in nature, it's also a fantastic spot for birdwatching. From colourful visitors in the treetops to the calls and songs hidden among the bushland, there's so much more to discover along the trail.

Take your time, keep your eyes and ears open, and you might be surprised by the wildlife sharing the trail with you. Which birds have you spotted on your walk? 📸

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Sculpture Trail, and to celebrate this milestone, we’re giving something back to our incredible artist community.

✨ For 2026 only, we’re waiving the entry fee — our birthday gift to you.

We can’t wait to see the bold, inspiring and creative works you’ll bring to this special year of the Trail.

You might like to create a sculptural bench as a nod to our very first theme, or develop a work that responds to the natural environment through which the trail winds.

Also dating back to 2006, Marcus Tatton’s Benchstack is another sculptural bench you can still see today after, quietly commanding the landscape and continuing to capture the attention of all who pass by.

As we mark the 20th anniversary of our annual sculpture prize and trail, we’re looking back at the incredible artists, artworks, stories, and memories that have shaped this journey over the years.

Calling all alumni artists, past exhibitors, volunteers, art collectors, and visitors — we’d love you to be part of the celebration!

This May marks 20 years since it all began 🌿

Back in 2006, the very first sculpture trail exhibition opened here at the farm under the name Benchmarking Birchs Bay. The idea was simple and thoughtful — a trail of sculptural benches, offering visitors not just a place to pause and rest, but a chance to connect with art in the landscape. Set up by local artist Wendy Edwards and proprietor Chris Read, the trail quickly became a beloved part of the community.

Those early works invited people to slow down, sit, and take it all in — the views, the creativity, and the experience of being outdoors.

Two decades on, that same spirit still shapes what we do. And it all started with a bench and a beautiful idea ✨

Did you know that Five Bob Farm, the home of Art Farm Birchs Bay, was initially named Fleurtys?

The Fleurtys name traces back to Charles Fleurty, a convict sawyer who arrived in Tasmania during the early years of British settlement. He worked at the Government sawing establishment at Birch’s Bay in the 1820s, and several local landmarks now bear his name, including Fleurty’s Point and Fleurty’s Creek.

You may remember visiting Fleurty’s café. We now call this beautiful place The Venue which is available to hire for private events. Contact if you'd like to learn more about The Venue.

There’s a sense of movement you can almost feel in this one 🐇

On loan from legendary mosaic sculptor Wendy Edwards, this striking sculpture captures a hare mid-leap—suspended in that fleeting moment between ground and flight. Every fragment of mosaic seems to carry energy, light, and motion.
Set against the natural landscape, it feels alive.
