The Roxy Theatre & Greek Museum, Bingara

The Roxy Theatre & Greek Museum, Bingara The Roxy is a magnificently restored 1930's Art Deco Theatre in Bingara NSW The quality and standard of the performances and events, make any visit worth while.

The Roxy Theatre The magnificent Roxy Theatre, situated in the main street of Bingara, is a striking building, with a history as colourful as its painted exterior. Built in 1936 by three Greeks, it operated as a cinema until 1958, after which it was closed and lay dormant and untouched for forty years. In May 2004, The Roxy was faithfully restored to its original splendor and was re-opened to the

public. The theatre embraces some of the most striking original art deco architecture in New South Wales and it still contains the original fixtures and fittings, including the ornate stucco plaster, paintwork and coloured lights from 1936. Today The Roxy functions as both a multi purpose cinema and regional centre for the performing arts, with The North West Theatre Company taking residence there. The Roxy also has the capacity to act as a function centre for a wide variety of activities and events, ranging from birthdays and weddings to regional conferences and seminars. It is able to cater for groups ranging from 20 to 400 and is able to provide audio visual and data projection equipment. Seeing the Roxy in its full theatrical splendor is unforgettable. With dazzling theatrical performances and musical recitals you could be forgiven for thinking you are putting on the Ritz…at The Roxy!

A Little Bit of Blue

An interactive environmental detective story, told with puppetry. As well as unravelling a mystery, it involves learning about the unique habits of an extraordinary Australian animal, the Satin Bowerbird, and their fascination for the colour blue. It is a fun frolicking mix of Detective Noir, slapstick, with some interesting facts thrown in.

Mavis’s world is turned upside-down by small disappearances. Something has gone missing and is nowhere to be found. Mrs Hooley has been looking everywhere. But it’s not just today. Every day a new thing seems to disappear. Little things. A $10 note. Clothes pegs. A ball of wool. It’s troubling at first, but the thief then takes it one step too far.

Mavis calls in a Detective to investigate. The Detective, Harry McGee, an adorable fool, makes a mess of the investigation, and the children love always being one step of ahead of him. They set a trap for the burglar. A stake out is required. In the dead of night, and the Detective indeed finds something peculiar.... The children’s role is to help him solve the case.

Jenny Ellis, a puppeteer of more than twenty years, weaves the whole mystery together, sometimes playing three characters at once. The young audience will gasp with surprise, sigh with the sadness, shout in outrage, cheer with triumph, and dance with joy as they follow the sneaky bowerbird on his journey to find love.
