We had a great night open mic as usual last night... 😁😎👍

Several regulars are still away, so numbers were a little lower than usual. However, those who were there to watch and/or play had a great time!

Our next open mic night is on Saturday 21 February, so save the date and come along for some fun and entertainment next time.

Music events are a major part of our activities at B.E.A.T and it is always heartening to see new players, including beginners, at our "Open Mike" events. Our events organiser, David McSweeney, has kindly provided the following advice.

You'd like to learn an instrument? Where to start:

1. Decide what instrument you'd like to learn. There are many choices from guitar, keyboard, drums, bass guitar to all of the classical instruments as are used in an orchestra such as violin. The choice of instrument and its size should be suited to the age of the student. For example, many children under, say, 10-12 years of age may not have the strength in their hands to play instruments such as a guitar or bass guitar. They may be better suited to learning keyboard/piano or even ukulele which would allow them to be encouraged by their early progress.

2. Find a good teacher. This may be at school, if there is a music teacher, or privately.

3. Instrument: start off with an inexpensive or even rented instrument. Once there is progress and commitment, you can invest in better gear.

4. Practice: The only way to make progress is to practice regularly. It is better to spend a few minutes a day rather than an hour-long session once a week. Nobody else can do it for you.

Memories of BEAT NYE 2024-25 Music on Bindoon Oval

Our New Year's Eve open-air music event was enjoyed by some 200 attendees who enjoyed great performances by our regular Bindoon Open Mike musicians. Our main attractions this year, who put on wonderful songs and stories, were: Terry Bennetts and Phil Christian .

Musicians included (in order of appearance): Stavros (drums) - David McSweeney (bass guitar, our Events Organiser) - Phil Christian (guitar & Lead Singer) - Warwick Trant (lead guitar and vocals) - Warwick and David (duet), Terry (songs and anecdotes) - Trish Murrell (guitar and vocals) - and finally a group session with guest Charli Dellaca (drums).

The performers helped with set up and pull down, with the addition inputs of Renay, Cathy, and two of Dean's sons (names unknown); and of course, the amazing sound system setup and monitored by Tuarn.

This was the fifth year running in its present format and we are so fortunate the Western Hay loaned us their truck again on which to set up the stage. Also, we are grateful to our other sponsors, Bendigo Community Bank and the Shire of Chittering.
