Meet the Maker ✨ Sam Winn ✨

Sam Winn is our featured student artist whose ceramics practice explores process, persistence and imperfection through clay.

Originally trained in graphic and digital design, Sam was drawn to ceramics for its unpredictability; a medium that challenges control and embraces experimentation. Guided more by feeling than outcome, each piece becomes a reflection of the making process itself.

Wood fired stoneware vessel in Keane’s 5B clay, finished with layered glaze treatments, including a traditional celadon interior and ash-style surface applications.

Fired to a high temperature, the piece by carries subtle tonal variation and surface movement shaped by both material interaction and the unpredictability of the kiln. The ash wash, composed of wattle ash and whiting, creates a soft atmospheric finish across the exterior.

From sculptural wall pieces to hanging vessels and suspended forms, these ceramic works bring texture, movement and shape to the gallery in a completely different way. Some are delicate, some playful, some architectural - all designed to be experienced beyond the pedestal.
