Today is R U OK? Day 💛

Parents don’t often say, “I’m struggling” or “I’m not ok.”

Sometimes it sounds more like…

“I haven’t slept properly in weeks.”

“I’ve been sick for so long, but I can’t recover because I never get a chance to rest.”

“I’m exhausted, but I feel like I’ve achieved nothing today.”

“My brain feels so full I can’t keep a train of thought or remember anything.”

“I feel like everyone needs me all the time. I’m never alone. I just need a break.”

“I can’t stand to hear the word ‘Mum’ one more time today.”

“We need to get out of the house. I can’t handle being home with the kids all day.”

“I love my kids more than anything, but sometimes I really miss my old life.”

“I’m exhausted. I’m overwhelmed. I’m overstimulated. I can’t keep up.”

I know this because I’ve said so many of these things myself.

You can love being a mum and still have days where you don’t know how you’re going to keep doing it all. You can adore your children and desperately need some space from them. You can be grateful for the life you have and still miss the person you were before everyone needed you.

This is a huge part of why Bear and Cub exists. Sometimes getting out of the house, talking to another adult, drinking a coffee while it’s still warm or simply being around other parents who get it can make a hard day feel a little less heavy.

So check on your mum friends. And maybe ask twice. 🤎

And if you’re the one struggling, please tell someone. Your partner, a friend, family, your GP or another health professional. Get out of the house. Have a shower alone. Go for a walk. Book the appointment you’ve been putting off. Accept help when someone offers it. And if you don’t know what you need, it’s okay to simply say, “I’m struggling and I need some help.

You don’t have to wait until things become unbearable to ask for help.

And remember, we’re always here for you at Bear and Cub x

And one little note from us 🤎 please be kind while we find our feet! There really isn’t a blueprint for a space like this, so we’re learning as we go. Hours, sessions and availability may evolve as we learn what our families want and need.

We have lots more we’d love to add, but for now, our goal was simply to open the doors and grow the space with you.

Our heart and intentions are 100% in the right place, so please send through any constructive feedback or ideas. We genuinely want Mini Cubs to become the best little space it can be. 🤎

We are SO close! 🤎

I’ve been telling everyone “2–3 weeks” for about two months now 😅 but it’s finally looking like we’ll get to share this beautiful little space with you THIS WEEK… maybe even as early as Tuesday, but I’m scared to say that out loud just yet 🤞🏻

We created this space because we know just how needed it is.

Those early years with a baby can be beautiful, but they can also be really hard and isolating. Sometimes you just need to get out of the house, have a coffee, see another adult and feel like yourself again.

But getting out with a baby isn’t always easy. Cafés can feel crowded and difficult to navigate with a pram. There’s often nowhere comfortable or private to feed or change your baby. And once they’ve had enough of sitting in the pram or highchair, there’s not much for them to do.

We wanted to create somewhere that makes getting out of the house with a little one feel easier.

A safe, calm and welcoming space where parents can meet a friend, have a coffee, feed their baby comfortably, catch up and mentally recharge, without worrying about whether their pram is in the way or whether their little one is getting restless.

And for our littlest cubs, a space designed entirely with them in mind. Age-appropriate toys, sensory and developmental play, low-risk climbing, soft spaces to roll, crawl and explore, and plenty of room for prams when those much-needed naps happen. 🤎

Our Under 2 space will be open to the public Monday–Friday, 9am–12:30pm, with private group hire available Monday–Friday, 1pm–5:30pm and Saturday mornings, 9am–12:30pm.

Just like our main play space, this won’t ever be “finished”. We’ll keep listening to the parents who use it and adding and changing things as we learn what you and your little ones actually need.

But for now… let’s finally get those doors open. We cannot wait to welcome you in very soon. 🐻🤎

We’ll let you know as soon as bookings are live on the website!

This one feels close to our hearts at Bear & Cub. 🤎 We believe so strongly in supporting the grown ups as well as the little ones.

The early years can be beautiful, but they can also be incredibly heavy, and dads and partners can too often be overlooked in conversations around perinatal mental health.

This Father’s Day weekend, Man With A Pram is bringing families together at Lake Weeroona to walk, connect and remind dads that they don’t have to navigate parenthood alone.

Because dads need support, connection and community too. 🤎

When we were designing Bear and Cub, we weren’t trying to create the trendiest café or the most perfectly curated lounge area. We’re certainly not interior designers. Instead, we kept coming back to one simple question: What would we want if we were bringing our own children here? The answer was always the same. Comfort. Cosiness. Somewhere you’d actually enjoy spending a couple of hours while your little one played. A comfortable couch to sink into, a warm coffee within reach, a quiet conversation with another parent, or maybe just five peaceful minutes to yourself.

We know parenting is beautiful, but we also know it can be incredibly exhausting. Our hope has always been that Bear and Cub feels like a little home away from home. A place where children can play freely while parents have the chance to slow down, catch their breath and simply enjoy being present. If you leave feeling a little more rested, a little more connected, or just a little lighter than when you arrived, then we’ve created exactly the kind of space we set out to build. 🤍

One of the compliments we hear most often is, “I love how calm it feels here.”

That isn’t something we leave to chance. By asking families to book ahead, we know exactly how many children and adults will be visiting each session. It means there is plenty of space for little ones to play and the centre doesn’t feel overcrowded or overwhelming. We know booking ahead takes an extra minute before you leave home, and sometimes it feels impossible when you’ve got a small human climbing on you or interrupting your every move. But that small step helps us create the calm, welcoming environment that so many families tell us they love.

So if you’re planning a visit, we’d love it if you could book online before you arrive. It helps us make sure every family enjoys the Bear and Cub experience just as it was intended. 🤍

A little Sunday update 🤎

When we first introduced Sunday morning Open Play, it was really important to us that we kept some weekend time available for our community. Because of that, we’ve continued to say no to Sunday morning private parties, even when our afternoon party slots were booked out many weeks in advance.

But over time, we’ve learnt that most Sunday mornings are actually very quiet, often with just one or two families coming through. At the same time, we’re receiving requests almost every week from families who missed out on a party date, hoping to hold a Sunday morning birthday or celebration with us. It’s made us question whether keeping those four hours exclusively for Open Play is really the best way we can use our space.

There is a business side to this decision too. ❤️ Keeping Open Play, memberships, coffee and snacks affordable is really important to us. Sometimes that means making sure we’re using our space and our hours in a way that makes sense financially too.

So, after going back and forth on this one for quite a while, we’re making a change.

Sunday mornings will now be available for private hire from 8am to 12pm. 🎈

It’s something you’ve been asking us for, for a LONG time, and we’re actually quite excited to finally be able to say yes!

This feels like the right next step for Bear & Cub. It allows us to welcome more families through our doors, keep our everyday offerings affordable and make more room for something we absolutely LOVE doing.

Celebrating your little people! 🥳

Thank you for continuing to grow with us. 🤎
