“This place is like my mental health reset.”

Just a throwaway comment from a parent one morning. Said with a casual laugh and a smile.

But my gosh, it meant more to us than that parent will ever know. Because while Bear and Cub is a play centre, it has never just been about the play equipment.

It’s about having somewhere to go when the walls at home feel like they’re closing in. A place where someone smiles and says hello. A hot coffee. A conversation with another parent who gets it. A space where little ones can play freely while you sit down for a moment and simply be.

Parenting young children can be beautiful, exhausting, isolating and overwhelming all at once. If Bear and Cub can be even a small part of helping someone through those harder days, then we know we’re doing something right.

Thank you to every family who chooses to spend part of their day with us. We know you have options, and we never take that for granted. 💛

🦠 Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease Awareness 🦠

We’ve had a couple of families recently let us know that their little ones have been diagnosed with Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease, and we’re also aware that it is quite prevalent in the community at the moment. We thought it was a good opportunity to provide an update on the steps we take to help keep Bear & Cub as clean and safe as possible.

As always, when we are notified of a case, we contact families who may have attended the same sessions. We know this isn’t something every play centre does, but we believe in being open and transparent with our community and taking a proactive approach to helping reduce the spread of illness where we can.

One thing we’re incredibly grateful for is the trust our families place in us. We encourage parents to take the time to let us know when their child becomes unwell, which allows us to keep other families informed. We truly appreciate this and believe it’s one of the things that makes our community so special.

Unfortunately, Hand, Foot & Mouth can be particularly tricky as children are often contagious before symptoms appear. While it’s impossible to completely eliminate the risk of illness in community settings, we have been extra vigilant over the past few days.

In addition to our usual cleaning and sanitising procedures throughout the day, ours toys are being washed each evening using hot water and detergent, and we continue to sanitise high-touch surfaces and play equipment multiple times throughout the day.

Thank you to everyone who helps us keep Bear & Cub a safe, welcoming space for little ones and their families. 💛

As always, if your child becomes unwell and you think they may have been contagious while out and about in the community, we’d greatly appreciate you letting us know. Any information shared with us remains completely confidential but helps us to do our part in reducing the spread.

It’s been a big week at Bear and Cub and we just wanted to say thank you to every family who came in to play with us this week.

This week’s bookings only trial made a big difference in helping us manage capacity and keep sessions calmer, safer and more enjoyable for everyone. We know this change may take a little adjustment for some families, especially those who love the flexibility of spontaneous play visits, and we completely understand that.

As we head into the colder winter months, our morning sessions are filling faster than ever and we simply can’t accommodate the number of walk-ins we receive each day. It’s a tricky position to be in because if we allow unlimited walk ins, sessions become busier than we’d like for the families who booked ahead expecting a calmer space. If we move to bookings only, it removes some of the flexibility that many families love.

For now, we’ll continue working towards a bookings only system because we truly feel it aligns best with the calm, intentional space we are trying to create here at Bear and Cub. Nothing is officially changing just yet, but for now we strongly encourage booking ahead for all sessions as most mornings are now reaching capacity.

Thank you for continuing to support us as we navigate this next stage of growth. We’re incredibly grateful to be in this position and we’ll always do our best to create a beautiful experience for every family who walks through our doors 🤎If you’ve been following along you might have picked up on some hints that we are working on expanding our space very soon. We’re expecting a very big week at Bear & Cub with the rainy weather already bringing in a huge number of bookings. Some sessions are already fully booked and we are very unlikely to be able to cater for walk ins this week, so please make sure you book online before visiting. 🤍

To be fully transparent this is a little glimpse into the future for our space. We know it’s not always easy to plan play sessions in advance with little ones, and we truly understand the appeal of spontaneous coffee and play dates. Unfortunately though, it’s becoming clear that Bear & Cub is likely destined to become a bookings only play space in order for us to keep sessions calm, comfortable, fair and fun for everyone.

Our morning sessions have been reaching capacity more and more often lately, and we’ve been finding it increasingly difficult to safely manage numbers while still allowing walk ins. This week will be a really good opportunity for us to trial how a bookings essential model works for everyone!

We are so incredibly grateful for the support and honestly feel very lucky to even be having this conversation. Thank you for continuing to choose our little space for your play dates, coffees, chats and rainy day adventures. 🧸☕️

Because today’s earlier post felt a little heavy… here’s one of little cutie Finley enjoying the space almost all to himself once the morning rush cleared out today! 🧸

If you can make it work around nap times, we highly recommend popping in to visit us later in the day. Our afternoons are often much quieter than the busy morning sessions, making them perfect for slower play, little adventures, and a calm catch up with friends ☕️
