🧵 Dot of the Week #32

This week you’ll need two 3-inch felt circles, slightly overlapping, with Wheat Ear Stitch embroidered around the outer edge.

🌾 How to do Wheat Ear Stitch

Come up on the left, then go down at the centre to make the first side of a V.

Come up on the right and go back down into the same centre point to complete the V.

Bring your needle up just below the V. Slide the needle underneath both sides of the V stitch, keeping the thread underneath the needle, then take your needle back down just below.

Repeat around the edge to create a row of little wheat ears.

The other circle is plainer, with little straight stitches 😊

Perfection takes time!

Nathan has spent all week working on this fun quilt. He has enjoyed custom quilting it with chicken wire behind the chooks and eggs all through the borders.

He is off to do his deliveries and pick-ups! This is a free service that he offers every Monday for Bendigo and surrounds.

He also has a PO Box for accepting out-of-town orders.

DOT OF THE WEEK #31 ⭐

This week we’re keeping it simple with Star Stitch.

Cut three wool felt circles: ⭐ 1" ⭐ ¾" ⭐ ½"

Arrange and glue your circles onto your 5½" background square, then work Star Stitch over each circle using stranded embroidery floss.

Star Stitch is made with straight stitches radiating through the centre — simple, relaxing and very effective. 🧵✨

🟡 DOT OF THE WEEK #30 — FLY STITCH IN THE ROUND 🧵

This week we’re learning Fly Stitch and working it around our felt circles.

You’ll need:
• One 3" wool felt circle
• One 2" wool felt circle
• Background square
• Stranded embroidery floss
• Size 7 embroidery needle
• Appliqué glue
• Scissors

Let’s stitch!

Position the 2" circle slightly behind the 3" circle and secure both with a little appliqué glue.

Mark dots around the outside edge of both circles approximately 1cm apart.

🧵 To work Fly Stitch:

Bring your needle up on the left, then take it down on the right, leaving a small loop of thread.

Bring your needle up underneath and in the centre, catching the loop of thread to create a little V.

Make a small straight stitch down to secure the point of the V.

Continue in the same way all around both circles.

This week’s Dot is three simple layers of felt with a little hand stitching.

✂️ Cut: • 1 × 2½" felt circle
• 1 × 2¼" felt circle
• 1 × 2" felt circle

Layer the circles from largest to smallest.

🪡 Add straight stitches in clusters of two around the outer layers, then finish with a running stitch around the top circle.
