Ars Nova Napoli are joining us this year from Naples, and if you’ve never heard Neapolitan folk you are really in for a treat... It’s so fast and infectious, and it will transport you to a Southern Italian summer at just the very low cost of a festival ticket!

Ars Nova Napoli are supported by the Italian Institute of Culture Sydney, Ministero Affari Esteri and Napoli Musa, as well as the rest of our wonderful festival sponsors. They’re part of this year’s international lineup, alongside artists from Argentina and Greece, all reflecting on and interpreting this year’s theme, Identity.

Seriously, get your tickets!

30 October – 1 November, Bellingen.

Bellingen Playback Theatre is unscripted. The stories come straight from whoever’s in the room that day, and the performers, (community members who we interact with all the time in town!), build the performance right there, on the spot. It’s surprising, energetic, reflective, and soul nourishing, and the Sunday afternoon show is becoming a Taranta tradition, where we pour into the hall after a busy weekend, happy and exhausted, and reflect on the theme, as well as what it means to live together in this beautiful place.

You’re used to seeing Memo on stage at the Mem Hall. He’s a virtuosic musician who gives so much back to this community, through his teaching, his support for emerging musicians, and social justice work like curating the charity album Songs for Palestine.

But have you ever thought about the Memo-shaped hole he left behind in his hometown of Santa Fe, Argentina?

This year, we’re bringing a little of Santa Fe to Bellingen!

Argentinian band Ginkgobiloba are joining this year’s lineup, and they’ll be on stage with Memo. They’ve been playing together for 20 years and it shows in every note.

We are really blessed to be able to hear a group like this, inspired by Argentine folklore, played with a feel that only comes from decades in the tradition together.

They are amazing, and we could not be more excited to have them in Bellingen!

So much of Taranta happens all year round with groups of people in intimate conversation, making things, talking about things, singing, playing their instruments, making their art.

As well as an opportunity to immerse ourselves in the work of amazing artists from all over the world, festival weekend is a big celebration of all the work we’ve been doing all year here at home.

Every Taranta Festival has a theme. This year’s is IDENTITY.

As we plan the festival, we are pondering the stories people carry with them, their heritage, the places they end up, and how these things sit together, sometimes easily, sometimes not.

We’ll be exploring it throughout the festival, through performances, exhibitions, panels, storytelling sessions and more!

We love the land we live and work on, beautiful Gumbayngirr country. We acknowledge the breadth and continuity of this incredible culture and that the land was never ceded.

This is Ancestral Voices, one of the most magical moments from last year’s festival. Led by artistic director Salvatore, artists from completely different musical traditions came together: Indian sitar player Sarita McHarg, violinist Gareth Mewes, Iraqi kemanche player Nawres Al-Freh, virtuosic Argentinian bass player Emiliano Beltzer, renowned percussionist Greg Sheehan and the amazing poet, Huda the Goddess. It was a real conversation between traditions, unfolding in the moment, unrepeatable and absolutely astonishing. It was as though the audience was holding its breath. Moments like this are why it’s worth grabbing a ticket, this is what happens inside!

Taranta is a grassroots community festival. It runs on grant funding from all levels of government (we’ll announce our supporters and sponsors for 2026 very soon!), and just as much on volunteer hours from people who believe in what we’re building. That’s how we keep some events free and tickets affordable.

We need help to keep doing this! If you can offer any of the below, get in touch:

• A spare room for an artist billet
• A few hours volunteering
• Business sponsorship
• Or just grab a ticket and come along

Every bit of it keeps Taranta going!
