Of Ravens and Rivers | Kerry McInnis and Mike MacGregor

Kerry and Mike are two artists who have been living together for over 40 years with a shared interest in our environment, our landscape, our wildlife, our waterways. It is timely for them to explore these themes of commonality in their respective practices and to exhibition together.

Kerry has been painting and drawing the River for many decades. Her recent work explores the idea of the river as a conduit of life, a metaphor of survival.

Mike's sculptural oeuvre has had, as its primary theme, the interaction of man and nature. His recent work juxtaposes the forms of Man and the Raven, illustrating what is, between two, a remarkable connection both physically and spiritually.

A storyteller of gentle, sparkling charm and warmth, Ian Paulin’s business card says, simply, ‘intriguing older guy does lots of creative things’. He’s been an artist, activist, academic and community worker, and throughout, a unique musician whose songs take listeners on powerful journeys, performed with passion and a sense of fun.

Ian will be the support act for Archer on Saturday 4 July here at Belco Arts as we play host to a night of true originals.

An old-style travelling singer/poet, for the better part of the last 20 years, Archer has hu**ed his bluey through every state in Australia, walking, hitchhiking, and catching trains, sleeping on the riverbanks and in the parks, singing in the streets, and performing in music halls of some renown, searching for songs, old songs, forgotten songs and songs of his own making.

He's coming on the breeze. Be there to greet him:

𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘕𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘳 connects objects to the people who made them, foregrounding stories of process, skill and care embedded in everyday making.

The exhibition reflects how creative communities often share knowledge, labour and generosity, slowly building collections within our homes that carry meaning through use.

An absorbed group of creative writers joined us for our first Infuse workshop with Emma Batchelor this past Saturday at Belco Arts.

Missed out? Never fear, there are TWO more opportunities to participate in this FREE workshop: this Saturday 20 June at Gungaderra Homestead in Harrison, and Saturday 27 June at the SLA Display Village in Whitlam.

Develop your creative writing skills in response to – or "in conversation with" – movement, visual art, and decorative arts. Through discussion, observation, and practical writing exercises, participants will explore how different artforms can inspire ideas, shape narrative, influence tone, and inform the rhythm and energy of their writing.

This is a free workshop, but places are limited. Book your spot via:

✨️Maker Spotlight: Birdy & Clementine

Birdy and Clementine is the design studio of Robyn Stewart. Driven by an earring addiction and a desire to create unique wearable art, Robyn makes lightweight porcelain treasures to adorn your years. It is slow handmaking involving many stages and three firings in a solar assisted kiln.

Each small batch of earrings begins with a spontaneous inquiry into pattern and colour with gold lustre linework bringing them to completion. Robyn also creates colourful functional ware often using monoprinting and signature gold highlights. The designs are made using many different techniques which may include inlay, lamination, coloured slip, mono-printing, and stencils, which are made from her drawings. All the earring findings are surgical steel, some with gold plating.
