🦜💚 THREATENED SPECIES WEEK SPOTLIGHT: ORANGE-BELLIED PARROT 🦜💚

Today, we’re shining a light on one of Australia’s most endangered birds — the beautiful Orange-bellied Parrot! 🧡🦜

These tiny migratory parrots face a very real fight for survival, with habitat loss, predation, extreme weather and their incredibly small population all creating challenges for their future.

🌟 FUN FACT: The Orange-bellied Parrot is one of only a few parrots in the world that migrates across the sea — travelling between Tasmania and mainland Australia! 🦜🌊

Tiny bird. Incredible journey. A future worth fighting for. 🧡🦜

🌿🐾 THREATENED SPECIES WEEK SPOTLIGHT 🐸🦜🦅

Today, we’re shining a light on some more incredible animals facing threats to their future. From frogs and colourful parrots to powerful birds of prey and unique marsupials, every species plays an important role in our environment. 💚

🐸 Green and Gold Frog
A beautiful frog found in parts of Tasmania, threatened by habitat loss, disease and changing conditions.
🌟 FUN FACT: It’s the only Tasmanian frog known to bask out of the water on rocks, logs and vegetation! ☀️🐸

🦜 King Island Green Rosella
Found only on King Island, this striking parrot faces threats from habitat loss and competition for nesting hollows.
🌟 FUN FACT: The entire population is estimated to be less than 500 birds!

🦅 Wedge-tailed Eagle
Australia’s largest bird of prey, these magnificent eagles are an iconic sight soaring high above the Tasmanian landscape.
🌟 FUN FACT: Their enormous wingspan can stretch to more than 2 metres! 🪽

🐾 Eastern Barred Bandicoot
This small, striped marsupial is one of Australia’s unique little survivors, relying on healthy habitat to find food and shelter.
🌟 FUN FACT: Bandicoots have a long, pointed snout perfectly designed for digging through the ground in search of insects and other tasty treats! 🐜

🐆 Spotted-tailed Quoll
The spotted-tailed quoll is a skilled and powerful predator.
🌟 FUN FACT: Unlike many other animals, quolls have spots on their tail as well as their body! 🖤🤍

We’re proud to continue shining a spotlight on Tasmania’s incredible threatened wildlife and helping share their stories. 💚

Because the more we learn about these amazing animals, the more we can do to help protect their future.

Every species matters. Every story deserves to be heard. 🌿🐾

🖐️🐟 THREATENED SPECIES WEEK SPOTLIGHT: RED & SPOTTED HANDFISH 🐟🖐️

Today, we’re shining a light on two of Tasmania’s most unique and threatened little fish — the Red handfish and Spotted handfish! ❤️🖐️A special fish that holds a special place in our hearts at Seahorse World.

These unusual fish are found only around Tasmania and are facing a very real fight for survival. Both are Critically Endangered . Habitat loss and degradation, small populations and other environmental threats have all contributed to their decline.

🌟 FUN FACT: Handfish don't really swim like most fish — they use their specialised hand-like fins to walk along the seafloor! 🖐️🐟

There are fewer than 70 Red handfish and no more than 3000 Spotted handfish left in the wild.

A huge thank you to the wonderful students and teachers at Exeter Primary School for helping us celebrate Tasmania’s threatened species and giving these little fish a voice. 💚

Small fish. Big personality. A future worth fighting for. 🖐️❤️

🖤 THREATENED SPECIES WEEK SPOTLIGHT: THE TASMANIAN DEVIL 🖤

Today, we’re shining a light on one of Tasmania’s most iconic animals — the Tasmanian devil! 🐾

These little Aussie battlers play an incredibly important role in our ecosystem, helping keep Tasmania healthy by cleaning up sick and deceased animals. But they face serious threats, including Devil Facial Tumor Disease (DFTD), which has had a devastating impact on wild devil populations.

Today, we’re especially proud to share these amazing projects created by the students of Exeter Primary School. 🎨📝

Their artwork and research show just how much young people can do to help shine a spotlight on Tasmania’s threatened species. 💚

🌿 FUN FACT: Did you know the Tasmanian devil is the world’s largest surviving carnivorous marsupial? And those incredibly powerful jaws can crunch through bones! 😲🐾

A huge thank you to the wonderful students and teachers at Exeter Primary School for helping us celebrate and raise awareness during Threatened Species Week! 💚

Let’s make sure these little devils have a wild future. 🐾

🦎🐟 NATIONAL THREATENED SPECIES DAY – TODAY 🐟🦎

Today, we shine a spotlight on the incredible animals that are threatened, endangered and fighting for their survival — and the people working to give them a future. 💚

At Seahorse World, this day is especially important to us. We’re proud to care for and raise awareness of some of Tasmania’s most threatened marine species, including the Critically Endangered red handfish and spotted handfish. 🐟❤️

But conservation isn’t just about what we do today — it’s about inspiring the next generation to care about what happens tomorrow.

🎨 Today we’re incredibly proud to showcase some amazing artwork and information projects created by the students of Exeter Primary School!

We will also be posting the amazing posters and fact sheets by the students every day this week on our socials.

Their wonderful drawings and informative posters shine a light on some of Tasmania’s Critically Endangered species and show just how much young people can learn, create and contribute when given the opportunity. 🌏💚

And because every important day deserves a little celebration… we’ve got CAKE! 🎂

Come and visit Seahorse World today, check out the students’ incredible work, learn more about Tasmania’s threatened species and grab a piece of cake while you’re here!

Protect. Educate. Inspire. Repeat. 💚

Because every species matters — and every generation has a role to play in protecting them. 🐾🐟🌿
