We are ecstatic to be presenting a Meanjin/Brisbane show for one of our favourite new artists in the world; the mysterious and magnificent Voice Actor.

Voice Actor is the enigmatic music project of-Sheffield-based artist Noa Kurzweil. Voice Actor has established herself as one of contemporary electronic music’s most distinctive voices, blending her haunting, deadpan vocals with dream-pop, IDM, trip-hop, and lo-fi aesthetics with hypnagogic soundscapes.

Their genre-defying debut was quietly released by Stroom in 2022. Sent from my Telephone spawned a mammoth of a record, made up of 109 songs; it is over three and a half hours long. In it, we find words are mirrors, reflecting soundscapes that recall memories both specific and universal. In the coming years Sent From My Telephone was followed by the more curated Fake Sleep (2023) and latest LP offer Lust (1) created in collaboration with Welsh producer Squu.

"Lust (1) follows the narrative arc of a slowly depixelating image, and anything even approaching language, logic, or clarity only begins to gather by the last song (...) It’s the kind of thing someone says aloud exactly halfway between REM states and waking: logically sound but contextually absurd. That’s the sort of register needed, Kurzweil and Squu have found, to convey the essence of dreams. It’s a mode of communication beyond words." - Emma Madden,

We at RA! HQ are stoked to announce that will be joined by En Kernaghan Band (!!) + Speeding Vehicle for our afternoon show at presented in collaboration with 🗡️🩸

En Kernaghan Band (formerly En Kernaghan Projekt Experience Banned 1997) is the live project of prolific recording/visual artist Ethan Kernaghan + friends. Trvly one of the most talented songwriters in town -- fiercely committed to DIY and deeply informed by 4-track recording, eastern spirituality, plus over a decade of experience writing/performing across different projects in Meanjin.

This will be the grand return of thee En Kernaghan Band after years of inactivity! We've heard the follow up to their 2019 CS 'Deep Listening' () and it is trvly stunning. Not to be missed. We are being deadly serious and don’t know how to articulate it.

Speeding Vehicle are a new group based mostly on the Gold Coast, also w/ members in Sydney. Their debut CS ‘Rubble’ from last year is something else - an expansive lo-fi document of ‘garage’ & ‘post-punk’ music ft. prominent melodica, synths, and some real solid songwriting chops.

Reminder that this is an AFTERNOON SHOW beginning at 3pm, because we’re not about to try and clash with The Saints later that night. You can go to both~!

Powerplant (UK) occurs somewhere in the shadows of synth and post-punk that produces material both ‘sad & happy’, but always dark in both the music and looks. The kind of dark you get at about 9:30pm on a Summer day.

Once a solitary bedroom project of Ukrainian Theo Zhykharyev, that found its footing on the Internet and grew meat around the bone, becoming a full animated live band of London’s best, when joined by members of UK hardcore scene and experimental sound artists.

Over time, with the addition of new members their sound has expanded, incorporating elements of London’s hardcore scene while retaining their electronic core.

Constantly evolving from early lo-fi garage-punk recordings & straight synth-punk in the ‘People in the Sun’ LP to post-punk ‘A Spine / Evidence’, an unexpected hour long dungeon synth release ‘Stump Soup’, progressing through to headsy dungeon punk/experimental rock record in 2023’s ‘Grass’ + their latest “quick little” EP ‘Heat’ from this year.

So, come smell the synthesisers sizzle, hear fast precise drums – 100% live, jumpy giddy bass and a little guitar to go with unintelligible, yet mesmerising oral performance!
