New Event 🎙️ ‘Area Discourse: To Represent’

Join us for a discussion with artist Gillian Kayrooz () and Claire Dillon (), art historian and contributor to Khaled Sabsabi’s Venice Biennale catalogue ‘the companion’.

Gillian and Claire met at this year’s Venice Biennale and have taken their experience of the Biennale and Khaled’s work as a springboard for sustained, critical conversations.

Come and hear their reflections on representation across cultural and geographic contexts.

With dramaturgy by S. Shakthidharan (), ‘She Rested’ is co-produced by and Utp.

Shakthi is a Western Sydney storyteller with Sri Lankan heritage and Tamil ancestry. His plays ‘Counting and Cracking’, ‘The Jungle and the Sea’ and ‘The Wrong Gods’ have won critical, commercial and community acclaim and toured internationally. ‘Gather Up Your World In One Long Breath’ published by Powerhouse is his debut book. He also bore close witness to Aimee's matresence, as the father of their wonderful children.

Kurinji is a home for storytelling that crosses continents, cultures and generations, founded by S. Shakthidharan and Aimée Falzon.

Utp’s Co-Artistic Director, Jessica Olivieri (), has been working as dramaturg alongside Aimée Falzon() over the last three years to develop ‘She Rested’.

“The experiences that Aimée explores in ‘She Rested’ are so personal, but also deeply relatable. I know first hand, from my own experience of motherhood, that there is an urgent need to redress the life-threatening inadequacies in postnatal support for new parents.

‘She Rested’ gives space to come together and acknowledge this time as complicated and transformative. ”
