What a night! ✨

A thrill from beginning to end in the beautiful Verbrugghen Hall under the direction of Chief Conductor Sarah-Grace Williams.

Opening with the world premiere of Endangered Species, an absolutely stunning new work by Sydney composer Graeme Brown, the program continued with Rimsky-Korsakov’s dazzling Capriccio Espagnol, Ravel’s exquisite Pavane pour une infante défunte, and concluded with Stravinsky’s monumental Firebird Suite.

An unforgettable evening of colour, beauty, power and virtuosity from the musicians of The Metropolitan Orchestra. 🎶

Thank you, Jeff Goldblum.

Jeff and his extraordinary band, The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, alongside The Metropolitan Orchestra have just shared two unforgettable days that will stay with us for a lifetime.

Jeff is not only an masterful performer, he is a masterclass in how to be a human being.

From the very first rehearsal there was a palpable energy around this entire experience that is difficult to put into words. In the rehearsal room, in the corridors and on the concert stage, every exchange carried warmth, generosity, curiosity, passion and absolute presence.

On stage there was deep connection, spontaneity, trust, risk, laughter and complete musical freedom shared between everyone performing and every person in the audience.

Jeff was utterly electrifying, and the calibre of musicianship surrounding him was immense. The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra are truly the best of the best, and every member of the band, company and crew brought extraordinary humanity, artistry and joy to these performances.

And TMO… played OUT OF THEIR SKINS.

Two standing ovations.
Two sold out Sydney Opera House performances.

But what will remain is something far deeper than applause.

We walk away from this experience with full hearts, enriched and transformed by what we shared together.

Some performances leave memories.
This one leaves a mark.

Deep thanks to Brad Drummond and our TEG Dainty team for bringing this to the stage, and giving all of us the opportunity to be part of something so profoundly special.

That’s a wrap on our 2026 Young Instrumentalist Festival!

What an incredible day of music-making, with close to 100 young performers taking the stage across five inspiring sessions. We heard an extraordinary range of instruments across the day, including strings, wind, brass, piano, guitar and harp.

From first-ever solos to advanced students preparing for HSC and diploma exams, every performance was filled with courage, commitment and artistry.

Each musician was celebrated for their own unique journey, receiving thoughtful feedback from our adjudication panel along with a well-earned festival medal.

We couldn’t be prouder

A huge thank you you to our Festival Adjudicators Sarah-Grace Williams, Victoria Jacono-Gilmovich, Kathryn Krugell, and Andrew Doyle, Festival accompanist Alison Cameron, TMO Management and Staff Bevan Rigato, Shelayne Torta, Gabi Torta and Amanda Drury. And of course - thank you to all the parents that support their children in their musical studies!
