Reflections from the Heart of ASC:
Why We Keep Writing
Some days, songwriting feels like pure magic.
The words flow, the melody lands just right, and you can almost feel something bigger moving through you. Those are the days that remind you why you fell in love with it in the first place.
But there are also the other days — when it’s hard, when you doubt yourself, when every line feels forced and every idea sounds familiar. I remember those days well. They used to knock me around more than I’d like to admit.
But what I learned — and what I see now through the hundreds of songwriters I've worked with — is that every moment you spend writing has value. Even the tough ones. Especially the tough ones. Because songwriting isn’t just a hobby or even a profession; it’s how we process life. It’s how we make sense of the world, and sometimes, of ourselves.
The truth is, even though I rarely write these days, the love for it never leaves you. It’s still how I think, how I listen, how I connect. I may not be penning new verses, but I see that same creative spark in others — and helping them nurture it has become my greatest joy.
So, if you’re writing, keep going. The world needs your songs — but more than that, you need them.
