OK. Yes. It is one way to learn a song, certainly.
If you need to learn a song today and perform it tomorrow, then absolutely, go for it.
Is it the best way to learn a song? I have to go with no, it isn't.
When you learn a song solely through repeat listening, a few things can happen...
๐ถ you take on all of the singers nuances and habits, the good and the bad.
๐ถ you lose out of the chance to know of the songwriter's intentions.
๐ถ you become a carbon copy of the recording.
When you learn a new song, use a copy of the sheet music so you can accurately learn the song as the composer intended. From there, you can add your own artistry and nuances. Enjoy the creative freedom in adding your own musical choices to the song.
And hey, once you know the song from personal study, then have at it - jump on to Spotify and listen to every version available of the piece. Borrow rhythms from one version, take inspiration from the vocal colours in another recording, but also be discerning in which elements you choose not to emulate.
Use all your resources to support your artistry.
You'll thank yourself when you do.
