Sydney Road Gallery

Sydney Road Gallery A collective of 12 accomplished mid-level Sydney artists, creating a business around relationships w There is a new exhibition curated every two to three weeks.

The collective are accomplished mid-level exhibiting visual artists from disciplines including painting, printmaking, textiles and sculpture, who have come together to jointly open and manage a combined gallery space. Fiona Chandler who came up with the idea for the gallery said, “Artists are collaborators, it takes many people to see original artworks on walls. We want to acknowledge the coming t

ogether of patrons as well as stylists, interior designers and architects who create unique and aesthetically beautiful spaces, places to live and work.”

“What we wanted to create is a conversation, developing relationships with the people that buy our works.”

Sydney Road Gallery's objective is to create a business around relationships: artists with artists, artists with customers and artists with stylists and interior designers.

“Every artist in the collective see buyers of art as patrons of the arts rather than simply a transaction. When you spend hours or even months creating a piece, each painting or sculpture has a story woven into it.”

“We want to tell those stories to our ‘patrons’ and the people who change spaces with our art such as stylists and interior designers. The feeling that comes from making something and then seeing that made item in a living or work space, and knowing that it was specifically chosen, can be life changing for an artist.”

Each artist contributes 10 per cent of each sale as well as a small monthly fee which goes towards the running of the gallery. The gallery will feature a diversity of artwork that will inspire and appeal a wide audience of art lovers alike, including paintings, textiles, sculptural and wall hanging pieces to suit different tastes, themes and settings.

Get to know .werbeloff.art one of the trio bringing ‘Between Brush and Verse’ to SRG. It’s the final week to see the show in the gallery it’s really not one to miss. Open 10am - 4pm tomorrow.

Alison is a Sydney based fine artist who graduated from East Sydney Technical College in Dress Design and Graphic Design. She began working as a textile designer in a very creative rag trade studio (14 years) but eventually abandoned this career to devote herself to painting. Having won a Scholarship at Julian Ashton Art School in The Rocks, her first exhibit came in 2007 at The Mechanics School of Arts in Pitt St with following exhibitions, including Artists & Craftsmen of Pittwater Art Shows and a 2024 1st Prize win in the Rotary Art Show (Northern Beaches). She has also been a finalist and placed in recent Sydney based Prizes.

Ali is a representational oil painter using traditional techniques and methods, slowly bringing her subjects to life with layers of paint and glazes. Her recent subjects have been Northern Beaches landscapes and figures. She paints realistic nostalgic scenes of beach holidays and old postcard-like memories by weaving a tapestry in oil paint of escapism set on a backdrop of Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Her love affair with the beach and ocean is a constant inspiration and flows throughout her paintings.

In this exhibition poetry and art meet within the human heart. It is a shared space. A place where the rhythm of words transforms into the physical texture of paint. These verses helped us to unlock that risky and exposed feeling of starting something new.

We invite you to enjoy where this journey has taken us. From the subtle beauty of the natural world to the rhythms and stories of local life, or a dreamy abstraction to a place unknown. Kate Davis, Amanda Mahony and Ali Werbeloff bring you a collection of works we have imagined and blended - Between Brush & Verse.

Get to know who joined us as part of an emerging artist show a few years ago she has become an integral part of SRG we have had the privilege to watch her progress to create incredible works for the current show.

Amanda Mahony is an emerging multimedia artist based in Eora/Sydney. Her abstract landscapes create a quiet space for contemplation - an opportunity to reflect on the emotional connection between place, memories and experiences.

Her process-based practice is inspired by her direct experiences in nature. Using acrylics, impasto mediums and oil sticks, Amanda employs sgraffito, sanding, scoring and scraping away layers to reveal underpainting, mirroring erosion and growth in nature. She also builds depth through layers of translucent glazes.

Amanda’s work reflects observations of the bush, sky, water and mountains, focusing on colour and texture to convey the feeling of being in those environments. Amanda’s process is iterative, with canvases evolving over time, reflecting the gradual changes found in the natural world.

“a Sydney based artist with a background in Archaeology (Macquarie University) and Film (SAE institute). My work is shaped by a lifelong connection to Australia’s native wildlife and inspired by moments in time that reflect my affinity to place and memory. I gather my inspiration where I feel most grounded and connected to Australian nature, from remote parts of the Flinders Ranges in South Australia to the Garigal National Park just outside of my art studio”

“‘We as artists aim to live as creatively and boldly as our heart allows. There is a unique joy, the deepest satisfaction, and a kind of spiritual appeasement in knowing that something we have /made, or worked on, means something to somebody else. It is truly poetic.

So it is here in this exhibition that poetry and art meet within the human heart. It is a shared space. Here, Kate Davis, Amanda Mahony and Ali Werbeloff bring you a collection of works. A place where the rhythm of words transform into the physical texture of paint.”

Our artists have worked hard for months creating a show that mixes poetry and art using one medium to inspire another.

Meet the Artists and your local community.

A conversation amongst three artists:

‘We as artists aim to live as creatively and boldly as our hearts allow. There is a unique joy, the deepest satisfaction, and a kind of spiritual appeasement in knowing that something we have made or worked on means something for somebody else. It is truly poetic.

So it is here, in this exhibition that poetry and art meet within the human heart. It is a shared space and a collection of works. A place where the rhythm of words transform into the physical texture of paint. From the subtle beauty of the natural world to the rhythms and stories of local life or dreamy abstraction, we have followed these poetic threads in our own unique ways.

We invite you to enjoy where this journey has taken us -

We are open for the long weekend! Come see the last weekend of .eland.artworks and with their duo show. As normal we are open 10-4pm today and 10-2pm Sunday.

Get to know .eland.artworks

“I explore the natural patterns of the Australian landscape, with a particular focus on the plant life surrounding Sydney’s waterways—especially the distinctive forms of the Banksia. Working primarily with acrylic paint on canvas, I use brushes to build layers of bold, expressive colour that reflect my emotional connection to place. My practice investigates the space between recognisable form and abstraction, creating vibrant, expressionist interpretations of the natural environment.”
