🔥 Another season is drawing to a close.

For months, the early mornings and evening skies have been illuminated by the glow of cane fires. For locals, it's a familiar sight. For visitors, it's a unique glimpse into the region's rich sugar industry.

With only a few weeks remaining of the 2026 crushing season, the cane fires that have become part of our daily backdrop will soon be a memory until next year.

Driving into the Burdekin late last night. Bins are getting delivered for the crews for today. The mills here are 24/7. It’s an intense time of year and it needs people to work strange hours in strange ways, so if you’re even a little bit strange, you’ll love it here ✨🙌🏽✨

So the is in the middle of nowhere in Australia 🇦🇺 and Australia is in the middle of nowhere on the planet and where this burn 🔥 was, is in the middle of nowhere (paradise actually) in the Burdekin, so running in to Rob Michielin was a treat 🤗 I jumped out of my car for permission to post and we both did an Arthur Fonzarelli “Heeeyyyyy” aka for the kids.

Rob and I worked together in another obscure industry that will remain undisclosed because it’s 🤫 but in these photos he is back burning a block burn with Brett Krug on the main burner. These are iPhone 📱 photos so you can’t really see the rugged charm and good looks of these guys. There’s only a few more weeks until the crushing ends early. It was good to see you Rob 👋🏽 nice meeting you Brett.
