New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) is home of the famous Howard Hinton and Chandler Coventry Collections of Australian art. The Art Museum boasts six gallery spaces, an artist studio, the Museum of Printing, conference facilities, The Six Counties restaurant and the Museum Shop. The museum's program features exhibitions, art classes and public programs.

Are you (or do you know of) a talented emerging artist or maker under 40 years old in the New England area? 👩‍🎨

At the end of this year, NERAM is running a 40 Under 40 exhibition where we’ll be showcasing works from emerging artists and artisans from around New England who are under 40 years old, and we're on the hunt for creatives to feature in the exhibition.

CURRENT EXHIBITION | FINS, FETLOCKS & FEATHERS: JULIE EDGAR 🐟🐴🐦

Fins, Fetlocks & Feathers is an exhibition by Mornington Peninsula–based artist Julie Edgar, presenting an expressive collection of prints celebrating sea creatures, horses, and birds. While Edgar is widely recognised for her bronze portrait sculptures, she is equally passionate about printmaking, a technique central to this body of work.

UPCOMING EXHIBITION: NEW HORIZONS 🏞️🌅

Earlier this year five emerging landscape artists from around the region were selected to take part in NERAM's ambitious New Horizons project.

Under the program, artists Rita Winiger, Peta Moore, Jane Tonks, Jacqueline Scotcher, and Tania Hartigan have received guided professional development, one-on-one mentoring, and a masterclass with Angus Nivison to further develop their craft.

As the culmination of this project, these artists will be showing their works in our upcoming New Horizons: Emerging Voices in Landscape exhibition, opening at NERAM on Friday 2 October, 2026. Be sure to save the date!

Road Trip brings together a group of artists invited by Side Gallery to immerse themselves in Armidale over an intensive weekend encounter. Designed as both a creative experiment and a site-responsive experience, the project asked what happens when artists step outside their familiar routines and studio environments to engage with a new place.

Featuring new work by Col Mac, Rhianna Phillips, Jessica Mc Nicol and Samuel Kiernan, Road Trip offers a snapshot of artistic practice in motion, formed through travel, dialogue and the shifting conditions of making away from home.

The Critic Unbound: John McDonald on Everything the artworld doesn’t want you to know 🔓

For more than 40 years, John McDonald has been a prominent voice in Australian art criticism. Since becoming an independent critic, he has had the opportunity to observe and discuss the Australian art world on his own terms, without the constraints of a newspaper editorial desk.

In this talk, John reflects on his first two years as an independent critic and considers what this experience has revealed about the Australian art world: arts funding, how artists and institutions are being represented, the changing role of the critic, and what happens to meaningful criticism when the traditional media landscape is shifting.

This event serves as a rare opportunity to hear directly from one of Australia’s most experienced and independent voices in art criticism.

Discover the huge, impressive abstract works of Angus Nivison, then create an abstract painting of your own in this hands-on school holiday workshop at NERAM! 🎨🖌

In this workshop, we’ll be drawing inspiration one of Angus Nivison’s work in particular – The Seasons (2014), which was created while listening to The Four Seasons by Vivaldi, performed by Max Richter.

As part of this workshop, participants will get to paint their own abstract masterpieces while listening to The Four Seasons, just like Nivison, to see what the music and paint inspires within them.
