One of the interesting things about doing public art is that once you walk away from the wall it doesn’t belong to you anymore. Eventually that wall will get painted over or knocked down and that’s the end of it.
Still it feels strange when you see things like this, where a new business owner comes in and doesnt remove the art, but modifies it, paints over it, turns it into something else it was never intended to be. Especially strange when it was a piece commissioned and paid for by someone else.
This was one of the first public art pieces I did for and it took me on some crazy adventures as a mural artist since. I’ve always joked that Armidale would get sick of me eventually and I’d have to move to a new town, I think this is a sign 😅
