Two highly-regarded Tenterfield artists, each with an enthusiastic following and an impressive record of exhibitions and awards, are currently exhibiting at Armidale Art Gallery under the title Landscapes of a Different Nature.

While both artists draw inspiration from the landscape, they approach their subject in distinctly different ways, making this a fascinating and rewarding exhibition to explore.

Liz Powell’s multi-media works immediately capture attention through their rich surfaces, intricate detail and inventive use of materials. Whether working in two or three dimensions, she often employs a restrained palette that allows texture and mark-making to take centre stage. Printmaking techniques frequently appear within her compositions, adding further layers of visual interest. Particularly popular are her beautifully crafted concertina and carousel books, which have been attracting delighted responses from visitors and are prompting many to take a closer look.

Linda Nye views the landscape through a very different lens. Her paintings sometimes take a distant, almost aerial perspective, conveying the vast scale and drama of the Australian landscape. At other times she focuses on local rural scenes, celebrating the colours, rhythms and character of the country around us. Moving comfortably between impressionistic and more abstract approaches, her works invite viewers to linger and discover new details and relationships within the landscape.

Together, these two artists offer fresh and engaging perspectives on the natural world. Their contrasting approaches complement one another beautifully, creating an exhibition that is both visually rich and thought-provoking.

The exhibition has already generated strong interest, with works selling quickly. If you would like the best opportunity to view the full collection, it would be wise not to leave your visit too long.

Landscapes of a Different Nature is showing now at Armidale Art Gallery in the Mall. More detail about each artist can be found in the Artist Profiles on the gallery website.

Two new exhibitions opened to an enthusiastic crowd on Saturday afternoon at the Armidale Art Gallery. A group of nine watercolour artists who paint together on Wednesdays in Kerry Gulliver’s classes, demonstrated just how versatile the medium of watercolour can be. Jim Walmsley spoke briefly about each of the artists exhibiting under the title ‘In the Flow’.

Then Linda Nye and Liz Powell spoke about their exhibition, ‘Landscapes of a Different Nature’. United by their love of landscape, these two experienced artists both have a strong following. Their approaches and techniques are very different, but the results are equally delightful. They both praised the curators of this exhibition for melding their works and displaying them so effectively.

Altogether this was yet another very enjoyable event on the gallery’s calendar; if you missed it, do come down to the gallery in the mall to see these lovely works in the next three weeks!
