Do you remember the first card game you played? What was it? Who was it with? My grandma was always big on card games and the first games I remember playing with her and my brother were the ever-popular 'Fish' (Go Fish) and 'C**n Can' (Conquian). It was always fun and my grandfather would occasionally play also.
Cards with children are an easy activity for older people, right? The children sit around, generally behaving themselves while interacting with their family, learning gross motor skills, patience (no pun intended), and social skills and refining their emotional intelligence. Plus it's an activity that's inexpensive and can be played anywhere. Our card games were generally played in the 'witching hour'; that time in the afternoon when every adult is exhausted yet the children are still looking for stimulation. It wasn't uncommon for our games to go 30 mins or longer, was impressive for children with notably short attention spans! These card games continued for many years, and we would slowly graduate to more 'adult' games - '21' (or Blackjack, sans the gambling component) and '500', which was generally played with my other grandparents and Mum and Dad. Eventually I 'graduated' to BAMBoozal with my friends which still occurs to this day. A lifetime of card games started from Go Fish with my Grandma.
