Materiel World at 🪞

Step 1: Audiences arrive with an offering for our e-waste buyback.
Step 2: We collectively mine 13 grams of copper from the objects.
Step 3: Using available tools, we melt the copper and recast it into a single sculpture of a bullet.

It was a beautiful hour. My first time demonstrating this process from start to finish, operating my own switching while metatechnician worked the forge.

Thank you to everyone who was helped.

is a one of a kind arts organisation the supports year-round creative explorations and a biennale festival on the west coast of lutruwita Tasmania.

As an artist exploring the power of experimentation, worldbuilding, and artistic agency, I have a passionate and visceral connection to this project.

I have grown up creatively alongside , having the privilege of working with the team, , and other West Coast collaborators in many configurations over the years.

These people have been my role models as I’ve developed my practice, so it’s my honour to be invited into the role of Artistic Director of The Unconformity.

This is the culmination of many years and immense teamwork in my world, and is the start of many adventures to come. Thanks for everyone who has helped me learn and encouraged me 🪨 Let’s continue to see what art can do.

Even the most vivid photos can’t capture the memories of my time curating the Field Trip project for The Forest Congress with this year.

This was a wild test of my fundamental belief in art’s power to negotiate ecological diplomacy. We shepherded a small group of forest-thinking leaders across the state to encounter the earth, each other, and a wild array of experiences across 72 hours.

Across sites of old growth, harvest, and regrowth, this road trip included pine plantation archery, a tall-tree collective time capsule with and , a bonsai bunker with , the healing steams of , the stochastic poetics of , and many more details and emergent iterations across every morsel and moment. A pleasure always to act as amenuensis for and collaborate with the Mona and Forest Congress team including Marissa Tremain and Magdalena Lane. I can’t tag every delegate, but thank you especially to Uncle Jim Everett for your role in this conversation (and for this incredible photo).

“The case was heard at the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (TASCAT) in April. On the day of the hearing, Kirsha arrived at the grim civic building in central Hobart with a bevy of women in navy skirt-suit sets. They’d prepared a little performance. Inside, one woman, Loren Kronemyer, in the role of “Art Historic Counsel,” consulted from an enormous, teetering stack of feminist art historical texts during the proceedings. And every ten minutes or so, the group would move very slowly, in complete synchronicity—lean forwards, shift backwards, apply lipstick, cross legs, uncross legs. “It was very physically challenging,” Kirsha told me. Each time they moved, the swishing sound of pantyhose touching pantyhose would fill the room.”

It’s been a privilege to serve as Art Historic Council on this groundbreaking case. Art is subjective, complicated, fraught, fallible, and uncomfortable, but I have mostly sought to answer one question: is it legally defensible?

Started off the year with legends .is.serious.mum at the irreplaceable 👽

These masters of chaos never perform unless there is other nonsense to share the stage with. In their wisdom, invited me to direct this nonsense. So I designed , delivering a conference on stage at a rock gig for my captive audience.

This week I’m in Queenstown delivering new work for the remarkable festival.

It’s been a pleasure to mentor artist during the creation of her work Paradise, where she has made over 1000 pressed flowers using centuries-old couture technology.

“The artist is inviting you to take what you want. This can be taking a piece of the work using these scissors, or taking your time in another way. The interpretation is up to you.”

Thank you .197 for being a home for visionary works in development, which has supported Clara and I, and for producing and gardening with us.

Thank you to our supporting partner for this event

Come along to see the show if you’re on the west coast before it gets snipped away:
