🎉🎂Happy Birthday Peggy!
🦈We wanted to brighten your day with some adorable footage of our beautiful Zebra Sharks, specifically we wanted to wish Zebra Shark Peggy a very happy 4th birthday!!

☀️Peggy was born at Cairns Aquarium on 8-8-22. She came to us July 2025 and our Zebra Shark Keeper, Cherie🤩 fell instantly in love. Cherie had lots to say when asked why she fell in love with Peggy specifically...

"First of all, Peggy has a little bit of teenage attitude, pushy, but in a cute way. S he comes at you with that d***y cute smile that makes your day. They (Zebra Sharks) look like they're always smiling. Peggy is usually one of the first animals to greet us in the morning when we go to do our morning checks. Her personality is very sweet and gentil and I just fell in love instantly.

Now that she's getting closer to 4 years old, a bit of her sass personality is starting to come through. She's getting a bit picky about her food. But how can you not get happy when you see that little cute face and smile! Happy 4th birthday Peggy, we are so glad you joined our family!!"

😍Come visit Peggy and all her Zebra Shark friends in our warm, indoor Tropical lagoon. Get up close and personal in our Zebra Shark Enocunter or enjoy a beautiful snorkel over the lagoon depths in the Zebra Shark Snorkel. These sharks share their lagoon with a myriad of beautiful tropical fish, rays and other sharks too. You might even get lucky and find Keeper Cherie as well!
Book now so you don't miss out on the limited spots! -> https://sharkencounters.com.au/tickets-passes/

We love you Peggy! ❤️💙

🦈At Irukandji Shark and Ray Encounters our main mission is conservation.
We are major advocates for a plastic free future. Sustainability principles are built into our everyday operations and we've highlighted just a few.

🪥Plastic pollution is one of the biggest threats to marine ecosystems and something that will not fix itself. To support and preserve our ecosystems we must turn the tide on plastic waste.

🥤Majority of this waste comes from the use and production of single use plastics.
Plastic was praised as an invention that was cheap to make but lasted a very long time. This is exactly why it is causing such a problem. Plastic never breaks down, instead it breaks up into millions of tinier pieces called microplastics which have been found all over the globe, even in fresh fallen Antarctic snow! ❄️

🌊We know that all drains lead to the ocean, and we know that plastic that ends up in the oceans inevitably ends up in our sea-animals. We have witnessed this first hand, with many turtles and sea-snakes coming to us as rescues, having digested plastic. This is not a drill, this is real and the solutions start with you.

💪Your small actions have a ripple effect and are more impactful than you know.

🌏The trend to move away from single use plastics and plastic products is already happening! Corporations are starting to notice that more people are making more conscious decisions. This is evident by the increased presence of re-usable alternatives and products without plastic packaging on the shelves of major supermarkets. But there's still a long way to go.

🤩Let's build on this momentum together and keep pushing forward to a more sustainable future. Make sustainability the norm and our oceans safe spaces for the incredible diversity of marine life that lives there.

💬Please share! We want to hear what sustainable habit is now part of your life routine in the comments below!

🐢A donation to Sea Shelter Rescue, Rehab and Release centre is another way you can support the oceans and the turtles could really use your help. Donate here or through the link in our bio. https://sharkencounters.com.au/conservation/donate/
