Angourie Dance

Angourie Dance World class contemporary dance artists Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal and Janessa Dufty Greenfield co-lead Angourie Dance Youth Projects.

About the teachers:
Jade and Janessa are both local girls who fortunately spent their early years receiving excellent dance training locally in Maclean and Yamba. Each of them showed so much promise they were offered opportunities to study dance while completing their schooling at specialist high schools - Jade in Sydney and Janessa in Brisbane. On graduating both were then offered opportunities

to study overseas – Jade in the USA and Janessa in NZ. Each has then had amazing professional dance careers taking them around Australia and around the world. Both are now living locally and are dedicated to sharing their knowledge, skills and passion with local youth.

We're proud to share this beautiful reflection from our friends and collaborators at Garimaa Ngahri 💛

The Youth Dance Mob Lead Big River Song project has been an unforgettable journey of cultural connection, creativity and collaboration. Working together with Yaegl and Bundjalung Elders, talented Young Artists and Mentor Artists we've danced, listened, learned and created on Country with open hearts.

A huge thank you to everyone who brought their spirit, story and strength to this process. The energy and care from all involved continues to ripple through the movement.

Youth Dance Mob Lead Big River Song connects Elders and Youth through intergenerational storytelling, highlighting the land, river, and sea while promoting cultural heritage preservation.

Starting with listening to the vital stories of Aboriginal Cultural Elders Fox Laurie (Yaegl) and Ken Gordon (Bundjulung), then established artists Bianca Monaghan, Blake Rhodes, Janessa Dufty, and Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal, mentored emerging Youth artists including Lennox Monaghan, Alora Mahoney, Khushali Mcleay-Aggarwal and Brittney Lavis to create an original song reflecting Caring for Country and Youth.

This initiative empowers youth in the Clarence Valley by fostering a ground-breaking relationship between Garimaa Ngahri and Angourie Dance. Aiming to provide Youth creatives and dancers opportunities to unite and collaboratively create a dance piece that reflects their unique spirit.
