Mawurnangkaya (Stone Axes) at Anindilyakwa Arts, Groote Eylandt

🖤🔆❤️ Along time ago before there were tomahawks and axes, Warnumamalya made Mawurnangkaya (Stone Axe) to chop down trees & dig for Aninga (food) 🖤🔆❤️ Using membirrkwa (ironwood) for the handle and securing the stone with Mabalba (peanut tree) ☝🏾These Mawurnangkayas ☝🏾were made by Arthur Herbert of 4 mile outstation on Groote Eylandt 🖤🔆❤️
