Warlpiri artist Patsy Ross Napaltjarri with one of her beautiful Ngapa Jukurrpa (Rain Dreaming) pieces - we just love this soft green colour 💚

This design is associated with a significant Warlpiri Jukurrpa (Dreaming) story about the rains that move across the land, and the wetter seasons that bring new life to the desert country. In the Dreaming, two men “sang down the rain” in an attempt to end a long, harsh drought that had been plaguing their country, but their song accidentally unleashed a huge storm. A kirrkarlanji (brown falcon) carried the storm further west until the bird grew tired and the storm became too heavy. It dropped the water at Purlinyarnu, west of Yuendumu, where it formed an enormous maluri (claypan) and mulju (soakage) that exist to this day. When it rains, ngapangarlpa (bush ducks) still flock to Pirlinyarnu. Patsy’s flowing brushwork lines represent the ngwarra - floodwaters or flowing creek beds - and the small dots are attributed to the mulju, soakages, or the bush plants that grow in abundance after the rain.

With her incredible eye for colour, Joycie paints the myriad of native botanicals in her homeland that bring life to the desert Country and offer a vast range of healing properties.

The endlessly talented Arrernte & Pitjantjatjara artist Eva Braedon brought in an entire pack of colourful woven papas (dogs!)

Eva grew up in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) and is the daughter of Eric Braedon, a senior Arrernte artist one of the traditional custodians of Wurre (Rainbow Valley) and Etikaura (Chambers Pillar) areas, south east of Mparntwe. Eva is a multi-disciplinary and creative artist, exploring mediums including painting, jewellery making and textiles, including making woven sculptures such as these beautiful dogs as well as other animals like perenties, birds and kangaroos.

It’s that special time of year to celebrate the wonder of mothers!
Knowledge is often passed down patrilineal and matrilineal kinship lines in Aboriginal cultures, and this knowledge inherently holds generational stories that celebrate women in a variety of ways - the immeasurable value of their role in communities as mothers, nurturers, providers, custodians, teachers and trailblazers. Today, this celebration extends to artmaking practice, allowing mothers and daughters to learn, teach and paint together - like Alison and her daughter Amelia in the picture above!

Art exists to communicate that which goes beyond words - we are thrilled to represent artists whose practice represents, in a variety of ways, the beautiful bonds of womanhood and motherhood, steeped in culture and tradition as old as time.

We can’t resist sharing details from sweet Evelyn Daniels’ work - her eye for detail is unmatched! Each painting of hers contains a range of smaller scenes and perfectly captures the passing moments of life out bush - women cooking Malu wipu (kangaroo tail), bush damper and billy tea over the fire; men hunting perentie; watchful camp dogs noticing the passing family of emus, as a start!
Evelyn always includes a range of native flora in her paintings; poached egg daisies, spinifex grass, kampurarpa (bush tomatoes) and malu kuru (Sturt’s desert pea).
