Lux Alba

Lux Alba Lux Alba is a chamber choir based in Albury-Wodonga. Founded by its director Rebekah Beall, the choir debuted in December 2017.

We predominantly perform A Capella pieces ranging from early music to contemporary composers. The name ‘Lux Alba’ when translated means ‘white light’ and was inspired by a quote from Arvo Part ‘I could compare my music to white light which contains all colours. Only a prism can divide the colours and make them appear; this prism could be the spirit of the listener’. We were drawn together because

of our love for music and feel blessed for every opportunity we can share this passion with you, our prism.

Here is our opening piece from our Good Friday Concert sung in collaboration with St Matthew’s Albury Church choir. Nikolay Kedrov's 'Otche Nash' (The Lord's Prayer). A stunning piece which is an Anglicised transliteration of the original Church Slavonic.

So Good Friday saw us perform in collaboration with the St Matthew’s Albury Church choir an afternoon concert themed on reflection and in memory of people who have gone before us. It was a beautiful program filled with many of the sacred classics such as Byrd's Ave Verum and Tallis' If Ye Love Me as well as a few stunning pieces from composers of today. Some video recordings from the day will be posted shortly!

🎶🎶The Albury Chamber Music Festival is done and dusted for another year🎶🎶What a fabulous opportunity to sing with some of Australia’s best musicians across multiple venues and events. Off’s monumental Carmina Burana on Friday conducted by maestro Mario Dobernig then on Sunday a World Premiere of Ave Maria composed and conducted by the inimitable Stephen Marino, followed by our very own director Bek Beall conducting Prayer for Sanctuary, composed especially for soloist Sally-Anne Russell by South Australian composer Jodie O’Reagan. Somewhere in between a few of us also got roped into 2 performances as the Von Trapp Family Bell Ringers with a somewhat unique version of Edelweiss…. Can’t wait for next year!! Very excited to be performing again in this year's Albury Chamber Music Festival! There a only a few passes left make sure you get yours before they are all gone!

Founded by its director Rebekah Beall, the AlburyCity based chamber choir debuted in December 2017. Lux Alba typically perform sacred a ca****la music, however they have hugely enjoyed singing choruses for Albury Chamber Music Festival, particularly for last year’s setting of Dido and Aeneas.

Lux Alba most often perform recitals in the beautiful acoustic of St Matthew’s Church, Albury and they’re thrilled to perform with us on ‘home turf’ as part of Carl Orff’s spectacular ‘Carmina Burana’.

The choir have also performed at Albury Wodonga Eisteddfod Ltd, where they were awarded first prize for the a capella section.

The name ‘Lux Alba’ when translated means ‘white light’ and was inspired by a quote from Arvo Part, ‘I could compare my music to white light which contains all colours. Only a prism can divide the colours and make them appear; this prism could be the spirit of the listener’.

Wodonga, Victoria based director Rebekah Beall aims to create a balanced blend of pure voices, informed by the notion of ‘white light’ transforming into a kaleidoscope of colours in the ear the listener. The size and selected make-up of the ensemble varies work-to-work in order to achieve this aim.

This weekend! Grab passes for our Session 2 via https://www.trybooking.com/CHUFM - check out our website for the full program and artist details, at www.alburychambermusicfestival.com.au
