That curly shell at the back has caused me to slow down and consider my mark making as I go. So many colour nuances, together with changes in texture have made me use my eyes and brain at the same time 🤪 No opportunity to zone out. It’s not quite finished but most of the thinking has been done 😬

A couple of shells added to my drawing 😊
Once I get further along I’ll go back and darken the darks. I’ll have to be careful though as all the shells are light in colour and I don’t want to make them muddy looking 👀

Another piece on the drawing board 😊
I just love the challenge of creating textures in coloured pencils.
My shell collection began waaaay back in the late 80’s and early 90’s when we lived by the bay in Melbourne. It continued on holidays by the coast.
Who knew that it would take over 30 years to draw them? What do you collect?

Well that was a surprise!
My coloured pencil drawing ‘The Gathering’ won the acquisitive prize at St Augustine’s Art Show this evening 😀😀
Thank you to the organisers, it was a well run and fantastic evening. So many people had smiles on their faces.
I feel so privileged to have my work hanging amongst such quality artists ❤️

Here’s a flashback to 2018 😊 This little graphite ducky is part of a much larger drawing.
We’ve had a change in weather in the past few days and it’s like nature has woken from its slumber. The trees and vines are in bud and the insect activity is bringing the birds out.

Adding a touch of blue and green to this king parrot gives me a bit more of a’map’ to work with. It’s important to get a whole picture early on in a drawing rather than discovering an error after investing hours of time.
