Wild Treasures by Jacqui Thomson

Wild Treasures by Jacqui Thomson I love dabbling in art and making creations to bring a smile to someone's face. It has always been a go-to in my life. Every bit of love goes into everything.

From sunny Agnes Water, Qld

Love for art, animals and protecting our native species πŸ’™

Check out my albums for original paintings on loads of prodcuts under my red bubble shop My creations are inspired mostly by nature, using things from nature and acquired store bought items. If I could craft everyday, all day - I would be one happy person. But I do have a Part time job that is rather physical,

enjoy outdoor activities like running, bike, surfing, supping. Anything outside in the sun! I have 4 acres to tend to (thankfully over half is still bush for the wildlife! A family with 2 gorgeous kids, 4 dogs, 3 cats, loads of chickens and the visiting wildlife. Any purchase of my products brings a massive smile on my face and gratitude it is something, someone else would like.

"We Are Dingo"
$450 - SOLD
Acrylic on Canvas Paper A3 size

Sold at the 1770 Art show 2026.
Awarded 2nd prize for Works on Paper

Big thank you to judge Kevin!
All the sponsors and of course the many Volunteers that keep the show running! If you see them and visit the exhibition, be sure to thank them!

Dingoes take up a lot of my heart and hold a lot of meaning to me.
The Dingo is painted in rainbow colours to portray they come in a variety of colours - not just ginger.

Ones of other colours can get confused as dogs gone wild, when in fact they are true Dingo. This one asks you to look in his eyes and see their soul. The same soul that you would carry.

I hope while I am alive, the Dingo is protected throughout all of Australia and given the recognition they deserve.

Ovie cat

Over 11 years ago I was renting this little unit for a couple years that was perfect for my toddlers at that time.

Lejla learnt to swim in the pool just outside the back when she was 2. She could dive, swim in the deep and hold her breath. Many times she did that while I would breast feed Leo or put him down for a nap where I could see him and tend to Lejla.

My afternoon time was tricky. Being a single mum and having a very demanding toddler - the easiest way to get them both to sleep was to go for a little drive.

One afternoon I was getting ready to put little Leo in his car seat while Lejla followed. And I couldn't believe my eyes there was this little kitten in my car! Lejla got me a towel so I could put the kitten in it, but he scratched his way out of my grip, all the while my mind had all these thoughts of "What do I do? I can't keep a cat here. Where do i put him. Ill need kitty litter. Etc etc."

He got away and ran off and I just couldn't stop thinking about him.
Lejla and I would watch from the windows at night waiting to see him on the street. He would come by sometimes with a black cat, other times with a cat that looked just like him. We assumed it was his mum.

Lejla said to me "His name is Ovie, and his mum is Ova"
She was an intuitive little girl, so the name stuck. And for the next few weeks I tried to lure him inside with cat food and treats. Made a couple different traps. Til eventually one night I captured him.
I took him into a safe space in the bathroom and let him out. He cuddled, and cuddled and cuddled.
He was no ones pet. But we soon became his guardians.

I moved out of that unit within a month to a cute little house in town where I stayed for 5 or so years until I bought the house we're in now.

In the last 6 years at our new location, Ovie would default every now and again and walk the 10ks back to the old house. He did this quite a bit and had me looking for him every afternoon because he wouldn't walk back home. Once he was gone for 6 weeks and I was sure I wouldn't find him. Thankfully I did!

And yes, he is locked up at night. Only allowed out while we are home and tends to just stick by me now.

He is the bestest cat I've ever known. I've rescued a couple feral kittens in the past. This one is just the best.

Fun fact - the cat that looked just like him was a male with balls intact. I wanted to try to catch him too and get him vet help but the moment never came and we moved away. He was seemingly friendly as well, rolling around on the rd close by but never close enough to get a pat.

The black cat I assume was his mum. She would often come with him to eat the food I had out for a trap. One day sadly I saw her on the side of a road. Likely stuck by a car.

There is so much more about Ovie, but this will do πŸ’™

Sorry I've been very quiet everyone and there has not been much painting going on in the last few weeks!

Hope to be able to get into the flow of it again soon though, as it is very meditative and seemingly helps me process things.

I had a very special friend visit from America, took the week off work when she arrived and this week when she left. 😭

I've finally been for a surf with my girl (there hasn't been much!), will take her again today, and we have both joined the gym in town.
Looking forward to watching her grow confidence in herself through strength.

Just a reminder I have loads of Magnets available :)
Some prints too. And Paintings for sale in my albums

Have an awesome day! πŸ’™

The Board Meeting

If you zoom in you may see the writings by the animals and that each one seems to be responsible for different topics.

The croc however thought this could have just been an email and is likely more keen on the Timtams

This is a heart felt peice with comedic attributes and satire elements.

πŸ”₯ Did you know -

Since European settlement in Australia; 100 Different species of fauna and flora have perished. With another 2000 on the endangered list.

πŸ”₯ Did you also know -

Thousands of Dingoes are killed under the precent of 'wild dog' each year.

Due to constant land clearing and previous pelt collections - Koalas are endangered.

Over a million Kangaroos are killed each year through commercial harvest. With more estimates reaching up to 4 million when including farmers shooting, car accidents and dependant Joey's losing their mums.

Farmers once and maybe still, killed thousands of Wedge Tailed Eagles.
An estimated 100million sharks are killed every year.
By late 1960s, after having killed over 300,000 salt water crocs in Northern AU - it became a concern the species was in trouble.
Those areas just some little big things that we have done to some of our Native Australian animals since european settlement.
It's tragic.
And it falls under the word 'Progress'

I grew up with a dad that painted and he too enjoyed the work of Cassius Marcellus Coolidge.

With all the seemingly lack of care for our animals future - this painting reflects the frustration and how it may just be fair for animals to do with humans what they do to them.
Hope you like it!
