The Helpmann Academy is the only organisation of it’s kind in Australia. We support South Australia’s most exciting new artists launch their careers by providing professional development opportunities including grants, mentorships, masterclasses, advisory services and international artist exchanges, all tailored specifically for South Australia’s higher education students, tertiary graduates and e

merging artists. The Helpmann Academy is a unique collaborative partnership, unifying the skills and resources of the state's universities. Since 1994 the Helpmann Academy has been empowering emerging creatives, promoting South Australia as a centre for excellence in creative education, and contributing to the artistic community of the state. July was another big month of structured workshops for the Creative Innovator participants with a focus on building digital skills with guest presenter, Tild Ricourt who heads up Purpose Digital. We unpacked the algorithms, explored content creation strategies for social media and discovered more about the wonders of effective websites.

Funding was also in the spotlight with Hannah Kothe delivering the Creative Australia, Artist as Fundraiser workshop to the cohort, sparking new ideas on building audiences and support through philanthropy.

Every workshop builds on previous content delivered and the links across the program are creating plenty of revelations and 'light blub moments' as our emerging creatives learn more about their own businesses and each other.

Mentoring meetings with business and industry connections continued with the pitches and plans now firmly front of mind.

We were joined by Bryce Krahenbuehl from Two Up Films for our monthly online check-in, who shared with us his valuable insights, and encouragement as current participants start getting ready for the final stages.

We can’t believe we are already looking ahead to the end of August soon and gearing up for our online check in next week. Calling all Helpmann eligible contemporary dancers ... a rare chance to train with internationally renowned Brazilian choreographer and creator of the Silvestre Technique, Rosangela Silvestre.

Over four immersive days, dancers will experience 16+ hours of intensive training accompanied by live percussion, exploring movement, rhythm, symbolism, expression, and the powerful relationship between body and nature.

This is a unique opportunity to engage with a movement methodology rarely taught in Australia and learn directly from an artist whose work has shaped contemporary dance practice for over four decades.

📅 Monday 28 September 2026 to Thursday 1 October 2026
💰 $250 (50% subsidy from Helpmann Academy, if selected)
