โ
Eleven years agoโฆ Dance Alive was born in the UK most suddenly.
โ
I was eight months pregnant with my first child, and I had made what I thought was the right decision at the time to not return to my teaching job after giving birth and instead focus entirely on my baby.
โ
And thenโฆ everything changed.
โ
A group of 14 adult students reached out to me. They said, โWe want you to teach us. We will wait until you are ready. In the meantime, you find someone to cover youโฆ But we want you.โ
โ
In that moment, something lit up inside of me.
โ
A quiet voice that saidโฆ this is your time.
โ
Am I ready?
โ
Wellโฆ sort of ๐
โ
But I said yes.
โ
From there, it was a whirlwind, searching for studio spaces in London, building a website, and figuring out all the things no one teaches you about running a businessโฆ
โ
And then one moment I will never forget:
โ
I was in the hospital, feeding baby Kaly, when I received a phone call from Diana, one of those beautiful students. (Shout out to )
โ
She said,
โI found our space.โ
โ
Just like that.
โ
In the same season of my life, I gave birth to my daughterโฆ
and to Dance Alive.
โ
Three months later, those dancers were performing a mid-year concert.
โ
Six months later, I was back in the studio.
โ
And the restโฆ is history.
โ
Today, 11 years on, I look at what Dance Alive has become, a community, a home, a space where so many adults reconnect with themselves and I feel nothing but gratitude.
โ
What started with 14 dancers and a leap of faith has grown into something so much bigger than I could have imagined.
โ
And it all began with people who believed in meโฆ before I fully believed in myself.
๐
โ
Over the next few weeks, Iโll be sharing more of our journey, photos, memories, and the moments that shaped us.
โ
Thank you for being part of this story.
โ
With love and plie,
Rejane :)
