Brenton Torrens

Brenton Torrens Rapper/Producer/Beatmaker/Songwriter Hey everyone,

My name is Brenton Torrens and I am a professional rapper from Adelaide Australia. Now I was! double time.
(16)

I started rapping at age 12 after seeing Eminem on MTV one day as I was just doing the chores and sweeping the floors. I walked into the lounge room and saw Eminem`s music video "Without Me" on the TV and I thought that that was really cool! Ever since that day I have been hungry and motivated to become a successful and famous rapper. My early teens where difficult as I kind of went off track. I w

as hanging around some not good people, I didn`t respect myself and I was in trouble with the police a lot and getting arrested. I was also in the crews as I did lots of graffiti and that resulted in beef and I got started on by some people. I went through the worst of it mainly when I was 13. Living life like that never was for me. As I grew up I went through a lot of learning and growth in my life, went through countless situations and had been in plenty of experiences that helped me learn and get stronger and wiser. Eventually I decided to make a positive change and did the work on myself to get out of that lifestyle, to stop being in trouble with the police, to stop hanging around disrespectful people and to start respecting myself more! As I was leaving that life behind I had to stop hanging around the people that I used to and that ment not having any friends. I chose to be by myself instead of being around those types of people. Through that time I was practicing my rapping and freestyling but because of the lifestyle I was in at the time and the people I hung around my raps where really angry and violent as I had a lot of anger inside so in a way it was good because I got to express it but they weren`t the sort of raps that I would perform to other people or put into my music now. I did rap ciphers and also rap battles but stopped doing the rap battles as I believe they are disrespectful and I do not like to put people down with negative comments and because of that I now keep my rapping clean and do not swear or use any obscene language in my tracks! When I was 14 I had a break from rapping for 2 years. One day I was working on a track writing lyrics when all of a sudden I got writers block and when I tried to think of some rhymes to write nothing was coming to mind, so I just decided to give it a rest for a bit. In those 2 years I cleared out the past and left that negative lifestyle behind. I remember one day walking past 2 police officers and they saw me. One of them must have known me from the past because he said to his colleague that "that kid used to be in trouble all the time and now look at him!" I think that was the day when it clicked that I had finally made a positive change and now was on track for the life that I am ment to have! When I was 15 I decided to pursue a career as an MMA fighter and trained a lot at the martial arts places and gyms around Adelaide. I took up martial arts when I was 13 and that was around the time when all the beef was happening. I was scared and afraid and at the start I was doing the martial arts so I could use it against the people who were starting on me but eventually as the beef stopped I ended up changing the focus to learning martial arts for self-defence, calmness, balance and control. When I was 16 I started getting back into rapping again but unfortunately chose to stop training to be an MMA fighter as I learned it was not for me, but still train constantly. Also
Just as I stopped training to be an MMA fighter I started making beats on my laptop on a demo version of fruity loops that I had downloaded and started writing lyrics again! Not long from that point I went and bought an amp from a local music store and started street performing! leading up to that two separate street performers let me use their mics to spit a few raps so that`s a pretty good indicator that I was going to become a street performer myself and because of them letting me use their mics my mum came up with the idea for me to start street performing too, and she bought it up a few years before that but I wasn`t ready at the time. From that point on I would spend the next 3 years hustling the streets, building my fan base up, dealing with countless challenges that street performers do and all in all just putting in hours of work to get closer to achieving my goal of being a successful famous rapper. I met heaps of awesome people and other artists, performed all over the city and got noticed by people who gave me my first gigs! I also did a few guests performances and open mics and got heaps of feedback and praise from fans and supporters who were there alongside me as I grew as a rapper. Also some of the people who had beef with me in the past saw me performing, said that I had balls for doing it and gave me respect! Pretty awesome hey? Street performing has honestly been the main factor with why I am such an experienced rapper today. All of those spots and hours spent rapping on the streets and practicing increased my skills to the point where I am now able to rap technical and advanced and can also rap really fast e.g. I have also inspired people to become rappers themselves and also for people to want to street perform also. Now I am currently Studying a Bachelor of Music in sonic arts at The University of Adelaide and am promoting my mixtape which you buy or stream on Google Play, Apple Music, Spotify etc. I am glad to have you as a fan and I hope you have enjoyed my journey so far and the journey that is to come!
