Rehearsing in a properly tuned room completely transforms how a band hears itself, performs, and preserves its hearing compared to unmanaged residential or industrial environments.
1. Acoustic Performance & Clarity
Standard Brick House: Hard, flat brick and plasterboard create intense flutter echoes and severe room modes. Low frequencies—especially from the kick drum and bass guitar—accumulate in corners, creating a muddy, boomy sound where individual instruments bleed together.
Tin Shed: Uninsulated corrugated metal acts like a massive mechanical reverb chamber with harsh, high-frequency flutter. Parallel metal walls reflect high-mid frequencies aggressively, creating a piecing, metallic ring that hides subtle playing details.
Acoustically Tuned Room: Strategically angled or non-parallel walls prevent standing waves. Absorptive treatment controls runaway low-end buildup, while diffusers scatter reflections evenly. Every instrument occupies its own frequency pocket, allowing clear separation between the vocals, cymbals, guitars, and bass.
2. Monitoring & Volume Balance
Standard Brick House & Shed: Because flutter echoes mask distinct sounds, players naturally turn their amplifiers up to hear themselves over the acoustic reflection noise. This creates an escalation loop where everyone plays louder, turning the mix into a wall of sound.
Acoustically Tuned Room: Controlled reverberation time (RT60) means sound dies down naturally rather than bouncing endlessly. Musicians can hear their own dynamics and pitch clearly at lower overall sound pressure levels (SPL), reducing vocal strain and ear fatigue.

ADELAIDE FRINGE 2027 REGISTRATION DATES & DETAILS

FESTIVAL DATES:
19 February – 21 March 2027

KEY REGISTRATION DATES (AVR Platform):
* 25 August 2026: Venue Registrations Open
Venues begin registering spaces on AVR so artists can start linking shows to venue agreements.

* 8 September 2026: Artist & Show Registrations Open
Show registrations officially open to all acts, events, and performers.

* 30 October 2026: Printed Guide Registration Deadline
The critical cutoff date. Show registration, venue agreement, and fees must be completed by this date to guarantee inclusion in the physical Official Adelaide Fringe Printed Guide.

* 4 December 2026: Program Launch & Tickets On Sale
Full public program goes live online, and tickets for registered shows go on sale via the Adelaide Fringe website and box office.

* December 2026 – March 2027: Late / Digital-Only Registrations
Because Adelaide Fringe is open-access, you can still register acts and shows after the print deadline up to (and during) the festival—your show will be digital-only (listed on the website and app).

APPROVAL & PROCESSING TIMES:
* Standard Review: 2 to 5 business days once submitted.
* Peak Period (Late October): 7 to 10 business days right before the print cutoff due to high application volume.
* Going Live: Once approved, your show is ready in the system until the 4 December Program Launch. Post-launch additions or changes sync to the live ticketing page within 24 hours.

KEY REQUIREMENTS BEFORE SUBMITTING:
1. Venue Agreement: Confirmed venue match in AVR (or registered site-specific/independent venue).
2. Assets Ready: 800-character description copy, high-res 1:1 promo image (no heavy text/logos), and session times.
3. Registration Fee: Paid upon submission (varies based on the number of performances in your season).
