Farewell ~ The time has come where I have decided that it is time for me to leave the world of dance. I’m no longer able to keep up with my full time teaching commitments and running this beautiful business. I’m am now ready for a change in my life’s direction, I’m ready to explore other passions and gifts that I have. The studio is now going under new ownership. A much loved former student from the early days of my ownership at Dance Xtreme, Jess Purcell is taking the reins. She owns another studio with 2 more locations, is a Mum of three sweet boys and is a qualified dance teacher and nurse. Jess can take the studio to the next level, offer comps etc. She also doesn’t want to change anything with our staff and I am filled with pride that a former student of mine will continue this vision that we have established as a place that nurtured creative, young souls. I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart, our students past and present have been such a huge part of the studio and my life. To Emily McEvoy, Georgia Riggs, Elliot Warren, Caitlin O’Shea, Olivia Hooper, Ally Miller and Mackenzie Millard. I am so proud to have taught alongside you treasures. You have been so supportive and loyal. To the parents and caregivers, I cherish our laughs, the joy of watching your children perform and am always grateful for the joy that FDC has brought me.

Lots of love to your families❤️

Ballet is not the foundation of all dance. And we really need to stop saying this in class and in studios. While ballet is a highly respected and influential dance form, it is not the foundation of dance. Dance has existed in various forms throughout the world, long before ballet emerged as a codified art form in 15th century Italy and 17th century France.

Additionally, it is important to recognize that the emphasis on ballet as the foundation of dance is rooted in Eurocentrism and white supremacy. Ballet, as it is traditionally taught and performed, has a history of excluding and marginalizing people of color, as well as other marginalized communities.

Furthermore, many dance forms that originated outside of Europe, such as African, Latin, and Indigenous dances, have their own rich histories, techniques, and aesthetics that are just as valid and valuable as ballet. These dance forms have been developed and passed down through generations, and have contributed significantly to the cultural heritage of their respective communities.

Therefore, it is essential to acknowledge and celebrate the diversity of dance forms and their cultural origins, and to reject the notion that any one form is superior or foundational. Embracing this approach can lead to a more inclusive and equitable dance community, where all forms of dance are valued and celebrated.
