Thinking of a black accent wall? It’s all about the light ☀️

We love a bold statement wall, and paint colours don’t get more dramatic than black. These accent walls need plenty of natural light to avoid making the room feel smaller.

🪟 Pairing a black accent wall with north facing windows is the best case scenario - bringing in steady bright light all day to keep the colour looking rich, not heavy

🌅 West-facing windows in a room with a black accent wall = gorgeous glow in sunset lighting, but heavy in the mornings

💡East facing windows + black accent walls would look great in the morning but would need to add lighting in the afternoon.

☁️ South facing windows would be the trickiest to pull off, with cool and indirect lighting increasing the risk that the black colour looks flat and cold

Steal our 3 tips for getting the right white, every time.

Where: Warm whites give a soft, homely feel for loungerooms and bedrooms that don’t get much warm sunlight (some shades tip over to yellow under too much sun). Cool whites give a crisp and modern look to bright spaces with natural light - in darker rooms they can feel a bit cold and clinical.

When: Check your white paint sample in the space at 8am and 5pm – time of day can change everything

What’s around it: Timber floors, furniture and the colours next door all change how a white shade reads. The shade you loved in the shop will probably look very different in your space
