Another performance artist at our Finissage April 14th.

Bodiness: Neoterica by Kirsty Martinsen.
Be quiet, breathe and look.

Kirsty Martinsen has been a painter for most of her career. In a world of fast decisions, literalness, the need to know and be told how to think and feel, Kirsty is interested in the opposite. She’s interested in the quiet, slow surrendering of a need to know or be told, and the layers and textures of our relationship with ourselves. Although her first love is drawing, the more disabled she becomes she’s finding performance and writing are the most powerful vehicles of expression for her ideas.

Her performance Bodiness: hands like wings is part of the Adelaide Festival Centre inSPACE program in August 2024. She will be working in the flesh with NY-based theatre-maker Erwin Maas for the first time since their remote collaboration began in 2017. Currently she is writing a horror film from the Disability perspective.

Ramond Zada, Gone, 2024, single-channel video, painted MDF, plastic switch, dimensions variable, duration 18:00.

Writer Melanie Coopers response: The vast expanses of time and history stretch far beyond what we think we know and recognise. In Zada’s work, the immediacy of the written word is put to service as a provocation for more considered thought and is reflective of his curious mind, seeking to understand the workings of the world to help heal and move forward, to decolonise and bring people together in recognition of universal humanity.

Come and engage with Raymonds interactive work and read all of Melanies response in our catalogue. Open till April 14th.

Tristan Louth-Robins, Self Noise, 2024, acrylic paint on plywood, loudspeakers, six-channel sound, Raspberry Pi, algorithms and code, iPods, amplifiers and code, iPods, amplifiers. Black curtains hold this sound work inside a small room, please enter and listen, theres much to explore.

And Nicole Clifts words: This work subtly suggests the process of stabilising (environmentally, politically, socially) that we are collectively heading towards will render our previous understandings uncanny and unfamiliar.

Sarah Tickle, Storm Center, 2024, video installation, duration 1:11 min.

And some of Paul Gazzola's writing: Tickle sets herself distinctly apart through the sole use of moving images of women to create powerful responses to female gender non-conformity and the prevailing patriarchal systems via a distinctly feminist lens.

The Renaming Station by Emma Beech

I am a stand-up storytelling aficionado. Through oral and conversational practices (read: I talk better than I write and I love a deep & meaningful chat), I make live stand-up, storytelling performances. Each story I tell holds a nuanced gem of human behaviour. My art is asking juicy questions, being able to listen deeply to the answers and to deliver the gold of a story. A deep respect for humanity and a fascination for each our own ways of doing things is at the heart of my shows, and being able to tell a bloody great story is what makes me and audiences happy.

Last 10 days to come get a catalogue, see all the work, and fill in our survey. And hope to see you on the 14th.
