Today is Wear It Purple Day 💜
It all started right here in Australia back in 2010, when Katherine Hudson and Scott Williams founded Wear It Purple as a grassroots response to the bullying, harassment and isolation too many rainbow young people were facing, and the lives lost to it. Their message was simple: rainbow young people have every right to feel proud of exactly who they are.
So today, we wear purple for our young people. To let every LGBTQIASB+ young person know they're seen, they're loved, and they've got a whole community in their corner.
This year's theme is Colours of Courage, celebrating the many ways young people, their allies and their communities show bravery every single day. Speaking up. Standing out. Creating change. And simply living as their true selves. We're here for every shade of it. The courage it takes to be yourself. To stand up for someone else. To help build spaces where everyone gets to feel safe being exactly who they are.
To the young people finding their way right now: we see you, and there's a place for you here. Always 💜
And if today feels heavy, you don't have to sit with it on your own. QLife is there for a chat every day from 3pm to 9pm on 1800 184 527, and Kids Helpline is on 1800 55 1800, anytime day or night.
