BOOKINGS FOR CO-OPERA’S 2026 PERFORMANCES NOW OPEN.
Scheduled in May, July and October, patrons have available the supreme masterpiece of Charles Gounod, an exciting American Double Bill and Carl Maria von Weber’s wonderful classic of German Romanticism.
Nicholas Cannon’s production of GOUNOD’S FAUST will be headlined by Adelaide-born tenor with ever-expanding international profile, Robert Macfarlane, who will sing the title role. He will be joined by experienced Co-Opera professional, Livia Brash [as Margeurite] whose own profile is now truly national in stature, and a host of first rate South Australian professional singers.
The AMERICAN DOUBLE BILL, conceived and produced by Co-Opera pioneer, Deborah Johnson, will feature a wonderful team of Adelaide artists by way of works by two American composers, Samuel Barber [A Hand of Bridge] and Gian Carlo Menotti [The Medium]. This is the team that brought you the comic hit, Sullivan’s The Zoo, just two weeks ago.
DER FREISCHŰTZ by WEBER is incredibly popular in Germany but, curiously, infrequently performed in Australia. When you hear the passionate Romantic idiom, you will wonder why. Livia and Robbie will again combine to give Macintyre Howie-Reeves’ production irresistible vocal and dramatic beauty.
Generous EARLY BIRD DISCOUNTS are available now. Most performances will be in BYO cabaret style [which helps keep prices down] but we are excited to present Faust and Der Freischütz in a [to us] new Adelaide venue at Observatory 23 on Hackney Road, where generous grazing platters will be included in the ticket price. Adelaide Plains patrons will also find what a marvellous venue for intimate operatic experiences can be found in heritage-listed Ayers House where the American Double Bill will be presented.
