Studio artist news; Dan Withey’s exhibition Finite Bounty is opening at Walkway Gallery Nov. 21 at 6pm with artist talk at 6.30. And is a Country Arts SA touring exhibition. Through playful, expressive paintings, Withey explores animism — the belief that all things in nature, from mountains to spider webs, possess their own spirit and story. Expect anthropomorphic creatures, magical happenings, and vibrant landscapes that dissolve the boundaries between human, animal, and object.

With his trademark mix of humour, imagination and energy, Withey invites us to see the world with curiosity and wonder. Image: The great weaver, acrylic on canvas, 150 x 122cm.

Welcome to our next new studio member, Asha Southcombe. Asha is an emerging artist and curator living on Kaurna Yarta, Adelaide, South Australia. In 2021 they graduated from Art and Design (Honours) at the University of South Australia after completing their Bachelor of Contemporary Art in 2020.

Asha’s creative practice is based in the act of mark making, both as a communicator of deeper research and as a form of process in itself. Interested in the intersection of the human and more-than-human, their work takes influence from contemporary research in areas of mycology, q***r ecology, the natural world and the human.

Asha also works as a practicing curator and arts worker, where her values lie heavily in the advocacy of diverse, emerging & contemporary artists. She is the current Visual Arts Coordinator of Country Arts SA.
